charging laptop battery

Hi. I need assistance on charging my hp laptop battery. The battery is running down even when the system is connected to power. How can i get it charging and how do i know it is charging.

which OS r u installing? If u r using Vista. U can see an battery icon in task bar in lower right corner.
If u haven't charged it full. It will display an animation to show u percentage of quantity of electricity.
when ur laptop is connecting to power port. It will be charging until the battery is full.
