Gaza: Civilians Under Siege

My message is simple, direct and to the point:the fighting must stop.To both sides, I say:Just stop, now. Too many people have died. There has been too much civilian suffering. Too many people, Israelis and Palestinians, live in daily fear of their lives. And in Gaza, the very foundation of society is being destroyed: people's homes, civic infrastructure, public health facilities and schools. We have a Security Council resolution demanding an immediate and enduring ceasefire. In the name of humanity and international law, this resolution must be observed.I expect the parties now meeting in Cairo to do what is required. They must agree to the elements of an immediate ceasefire. At a minimum, that means a halt to rocket attacks by Hamas militants and a withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza. It is time to stop.It is time to stop the killing and the destruction.

I think people mis-understand the power of the UN. The UN has very little power. The UN is a negociator. Its only power is to summon each government in its conference room and try to persuade them to negociate. They don't have the power to force them to negociate. They only have the power to force them to talk to each other. If they can negociate a peace treaty... the UN send its military to enforce it. But if it cannot enforce it... its military run for its life and war resume. The UN is just a front for political correctness. It does not actually solve anything... as it is powerless.

Yes, I agree with you. UN has very little power(May be has no power).UN are used by others & this countries which are use UN for their benefit, their power is UN's power. They do that which is benefited them.

It is natural for everybody to wish the war to stop. But I am afraid the warring parties are least interested to stop the fight. If I am not mistaken, it has been eighteen days since the fight started and still, there is no sign of the war being stopped. I am afraid this war will result in heavy casualties.

You are right about that. Both parties should start to stop shooting each other and try to live in peace with each other. I think that is possible if they would be tolerant about each other. I think Hamas did start the provocation and they should stop this. Israel on the other hand is I think civil enough to stop when they see Hamas would finally stopped their harassing Israel Border.
