This is a question that was brought up in my class, and had a good figure of opinion on it. I thought I would ask it here.
I guess there really isn't a point in it, I know some parents would say yes, because they should learn early gender difference. However, they are just now starting to learn about themselves. What do you think?

I don't think that it is necessary when they are that young. When the kids are 3 and in school, the teacher usually supervises bathroom time so there is really nothing to worry about. Also, at home we don't have gender bathrooms, so why worry about it when the kids are so young.

I don't think having different bathrooms is a big deal. Most 3 year old children probably understand there is a difference there anyways. My daughters started to notice it when I would change their brother's diaper. I guess I don't understand how having different bathroom will effect them. My daughter's preschool was located in her school so even in preschool they used the big kids bathrooms. She never once mentioned the fact that the boys went in a different bathroom.

True, most don't recognize it, however also there are those who are different ( I remember my sister was quite...curious?) thanks for your response.

I think there should be separate bathrooms for boys and girls, no matter what their age is. Its not only about gender difference, a lot of other issues are involved too. the genitals are distinctly different and so is the style of peeing. I would not want little children to become overtly curious about what sticks out from between a boy’s legs or why do girls have to sit while peeing.

ah, but you see that is why they should have only one gender role bathroom...starting around the ending of the 2nd year of life and starting the 3rd they start to explore their own body. Even if you make a valid point about that the worst is that is going to happen is something around the words of , " teacher, look what I got!"
It is isn't until about six or seven when they actually start to mess with themselves ( and others)

I would have to say no. I am not sure at what age is a good time to make seperate restrooms, its a tough question. My son is in kindergarten and they have one restroom and its inside their class room so they dont have to go down the hall or anything. I dont know which grade they switch to the other restrooms but i think its first grade.
As for learning gender differences, there are so many other ways they can be taught it, and just the fact that they use different restrooms isnt goiong to teach them all they need to know about it.

I agree, they need to learn somehow, but putting a picture up is not going to do it. Heck, teachers aren't even supposed to use pictures until they are sure they are at that developmental stage yet.
