Frugal Dishwasher Detergent, what you think?

I just started using a frugal recipe for dishwasher detergent and was wondering if anyone on here has used it or has something that might be better. I mix half borax, 20 mule team, with half baking soda, then add 2 tablespoons to the dishwasher. They also suggested pouring white vinegar in the rinse agent dispenser to keep the dishes spot free and cleaner and fresher. These things also are intended to refresh your dishwasher. Do you use this or something else. The store bought detergents are getting so expensive, so I need all the input you can give me. Thanks and God bless you!

Actually I was trying ot do this myself. But I was first starting with making my own laundry detergent. I tried that but it's so thick that I can't even get it out of the bottles i have it in. I think it needs more water but since the bottles are full I can't add anymore water to it. But I was thinking of the dishwaster detergent too. To save some money. But from the previous poster about it making a thick residue I'm not sure if I'd really like to try and clean that off. I would think it would be hard at a rock and than you'll have to run a few dishwasher cycles just to get it off. Or maybe you add the vinegar in after you put the first in. Meaning put the power in first let it run all the way thru and if you have spots. Rinse with vinegar to clean the spots off. Maybe that'll work better. Maybe I'll try it soon and let you all know.

The recipe I have also has salt in it. So it is 1/3 borax 1/3 baking soda and 1/3 salt. It also says to use a very small amount. I have had a tom of dishwasher detergent for a long time so I was trying to use that up first but I will have to try this out and see if I need to start looking for deals again. I will try it out and let you know what I think.

Hmmm.... i am not sure about dishwasher detergent. However, my mum do use a kind of homemade enzyme which is very effective for cleaning. She mixes lots of orange peel into a bottle which contains about 3 litres of water and keep it aside for 3 months. After that it can be use. I tried using it to wash the toilet, and washing the dishes, even cleaning the leather sofa. It is very effective in cleaning dirt and grease. I hope this info helps.=)
