I have been using Ebay for years and didn't had a problem until now. I bought something from a seller who was relatively new but had a good rating, everything seemed legitimate, and then all of a sudden they pulled all their listings off the site and seem to have disappeared into thin air! I received messages from both Ebay and Paypal telling me this and letting me know exactly what to do. So far I'm very impressed with the way they handle things like this. Have you ever been scammed through Ebay or a site like Ebay? How did you handle it? What was the outcome? Share your stories!

I've had 2 issues with e-bay. One was when I tried to sell a game, the winning bidder ended up bidding like $40, but never paid me. That really ticked me off. But it wasn't a huge deal, I wasn't out any money, e-bay retracted the listing fees for me, and I ended up just keeping the game. Then just last week hubby and I purchased an X Box 360 hard drive for $30. Unfortunatly hubby didn't check the shipping address when he paid via Paypal, so it was listed to go to a previous address where we haven't lived in over 3 years. I contacted the seller and they said they HAD to ship to the Paypal address, so it seemed we were out of luck. But then I asked the seller if they'd refund the money and I'd resubmit the payment using the correct address. They did, so it all worked out, it was just a bit confusing.

I've been on Ebay since 2004 but I've only bought like four or five things on there since I joined. Fortunately, so far I haven't been the victim of a scammer. Although earlier this year I thought I was going to have some trouble. I needed a book for one of my classes and I found it on ebay. I won the book but later on I saw some of the negative ratings for the seller. He had like 60 to 75 negative ratings in a single month (although admittedly the positive by far were more). Some said they had won stuff like a month before and had never gotten the stuff they won and stuff like that. I wrote the user a few days later and he never responded. So after a week, I got a little anxious and was about to file a dispute or whatever if I didn't get my book in the few days that followed. Fortunately the book actually came the following day that I decided that.

I have always received my stuff up until now. Even with this one if Ebay hadn't notified me I wouldn't have noticed for probably another month when I started to wonder where it was. Hopefully the dispute and claim process works!

Well, there was maybe two items that I bought off ebay that I never received. Of course, I e-mailed the sellers several times inquiring about it. One lady claimed she was sick or was in the midst of moving. Obviously, it can make a person very irritated when something like this happens. I never did get the items, nor did I get reimbursed because the items didn't cost enough to qualify for ebay's buyer protection plan. I think one of them had his/her account suspended after I had bought the item.

Do you know how much an item has to be before it qualifies?

I buy/sell on Ebay regularly and can't say that I've been scammed. I have felt that a product or two that I have bought was a little misrepresented, but nothing that I can deal with. I suppose that scams do occur because I see people on tv court shows suing others because of it. But, what is refreshing and comforting is that you are pleased with teh way that these two companies are handling the problem. At least they are being responsible towards their customers. I wish you much better experiences on the internet.

I think as a whole it's as trustworthy as any buy & sell website. But of course there are always the slime balls!

I haven't been a victim yet. I always look at the rating first, and if say 5 out of 1000 ratings are bad, I will go through 1000 ratings just to look at those 5.

I normally do that too and this was pretty much the only time I didn't because I wanted the item so bad I just glanced at the total rating and then bid. I hope it gets rectified but if it doesn't then I guess I'll have to file this under 'live and learn'.

I haven't but my dad has. He purchased a phone off ebay but never received it. He paid £200 almost for it but no reply from the seller and he couldnt claim his money back on Paypal because the seller did a runner. The seller soon after unregistered from ebay and made a good bit of money since he had over 20 negative replies from angry people who he stole money from. ipods, tvs, cameras, phones.... I decided to step in and help my dad. I communicated with Paypal and some of the people who were also scammed. To cut a long story short, I managed to get my dad £150 back from Paypal and the scammer is now in prision.

I'm glad that it was resolved and the scammer got what he deserved. I actually ended up getting my whole $24.29 back. I was really impressed with the way Paypal handled it.

Yes, Paypal can be good at times but of course, they can be bad too...My experiences with Paypal have been positive overall but there are websites about Paypal horror stories which are sometimes interesting to read. Glad they don't happen to me, some are rather horrific

I suppose Ebay and PayPal alike could easily consider this an endorsement. I have been with PayPal for ten years and Ebay for about five years. Personally, I have never had a problem with either of them that caused me any grief. There was a time when someone else was trying to screw with me by way of my PayPal, while purchasing from me but nothing ever effected me badly. I trust PayPal. As for Ebay, I love the site. I have bought so many things from Ebay. Especially hard to find and collector items. I really enjoy shopping there for my dog. I have never had any problems with any of my purchases or transactions on Ebay. Like yourself, however, I did make a purchase only to find that once I received the tiem, I went back to leave feedback and the seller had closed their Ebay account entirely. I found that rather strange but none the less, I got my product and have been happy with it ever since. I have read of others who have had a bad experience while shopping on Ebay. One was with trading cards. My advice to buyers seeking merchandise on Ebay is to always beware. Read the notices from Ebay as well as their information sections on Fraud. Research the sellers feedback. Never purchase high ticket items on Ebay, especially if the item is worth 3-5000$ and it is being sold for far less. Often the merchandise is stolen or it is to rip you off, period. Overall, as far as my experiences go, I can not say anything bad. It's all good. I am confident however, that if I ever do run into a problem that both Ebay and PayPal will work in my favor. I am a cautious buyer and a long time member of PayPal in good standing. I am glad to read that you are impressed with the way Ebay and PayPal handled the discrepancy that occurred for you. You did not mention if you got the product or not. I am assuming that you didn't and that you were reimbursed. I thank my lucky stars that all has gone well for me in the online shopping with Ebay and PayPal.

Well it is the principal that counts. I hope that you get resolution but since the seller can not be contacted, perhaps this one can be chalked up as experience. Sorry that this has happened to you. Thank you for your comment.

I did not get the item and am assuming that I wont (as they seem to have completely disappeared). I have not been reimbursed yet but I am pretty confident in Paypal. I started the dispute process and it told me that the seller could not be contacted at this time and to elevate to a claim. It was just a DS game and it was only about $24 dollars so it wont be the end of the world if I don't get the money back, but I still think that I will.

I have been fortunate not to have any problems with scammers on Ebay. I don't make all that many purchases there, but I do occasionally buy things on Ebay, if I want a good deal on something, or if it's something that's really difficult to find. So far, I have only had good experiences with them, though. I'm sorry to hear that you had problems recently, but it's good to know that Ebay and Paypal both handled the situation so well!

That's too bad, did they have a good reputation? It seems like Ebay is pretty strict with bad sellers but how do they govern things like items being lost in the mail? That's one major concern of mine with Ebay - I'm not too trusting of the mail!

Hi, I had the same experience before christmas. I bought and paid for an item, I emailed the seller after a week and asked him if my item had been shipped. He told me he was going to ship it the next day because they had been very busy.....Yeah right, the next time I logged in it showed the seller was no longer registered!!!! I was so annoyed I reported him paypal for non-receipt. I was lucky enough to get my money back through the paypal insurance. I didnt hold out any hope as I had heard a lot of bad stories about paypal going in favour of the other party, but it was sorted and had my money back within twelve days. :-)

Thankfully this hasn't happened to me! I haven't bought that much from ebay anyhow, perhaps two items! I am looking into the process of selling items on ebay. I think that ebay is a reputable auction site, it's well known! I like the fact that they have a rating system and you should only really purchase from sellers that a one hundred per cent positive rating. I hope that you don't go through similar experiences again. Good luck. Andrew

I've used E-Bay on and off for a few years, and have been very pleased with my transactions. The worse thing that happened to me was that a seller posted a negative rating on me. But, when I read what was said, he blasted on himself! E-Bay takes a very strong stance on bad sellers, so I'm sure that they do all they can do to make the seller make good, and most likely pull their ability to sell.

It looks like the seller already pulled themselves off. The reason Ebay contacted me was because the item was no longer listed and when I went looking it appeared that all their other listings were down as well. So hopefully I'll find out what happened, definitely looks like a scam.

I have been using Ebay for years and have never had a problem with any of the sellers I've purchased from. I have also purchased from Amazon.com sellers for years and had my first problem with one of them recently. I had ordered two of an item ($85.00 each) and I could tell by the shipping notice they had only shipped one. I contacted them, including a copy of my Amazon.com confirmation showing I had ordered and paid for two, and they emailed back that I should reorder the second one. I responded that I had already paid for two and if I reordered, I would pay for three and still only receive two. They ignored me after that. They had a toll free number so I called them. I told the guy that answered what was going on and he asked me if I could hold a minute. When he came back on the line, he transferred me to a voice mail box! I filed a claim with Amazon.com and was reimbursed nine days later. So, Amazon.com did take care of the problem right away.

So far i never faced any such bad experience with ebay.In ebay we can see merchants from different corners of the world and it is very difficult to predict the behavior of sellers. This type of incidence happens some times and it is very difficult to avoid such activities.

Up till now I was lucky enough to say that I have never been scammed online through Ebay or any other site. I am glad that both Ebay and Paypal has dealth with this problem in a professional manner. It is not fair that the buyer has to suffer he expenses. I only buy from Ebay because I have a certainity of mind that I can have my money back if things go wrong.

I am a member of Ebay for a long time and I have not been scammed yet. But I also have to say that the only time I go there is at Christmas time. All the other times of the year if I want something I just shop the normal shops.

Hey, I personally haven't been yet, but my dad has. This was the first time he had bought something. He bought 3 16GB USB's of eBay. And out of the 3 only 1 of them actually work. Oh well, at least he got them for a good price. Happy Lotting!

I also use ebay alot. I keep on buying pen drives, coins, etc. I have been scammed on ebay, in a sense that when i bought an old mobile phone, which was described to be in a scratch less condition, came out to be broken and not working garbage. Now when i requested to refund the site kept saying something for days. so i feel scammed.
