what is honor roll?

have you ever wondered why we have this honor roll system?is it really that perfect?anyway i personally think that this honor roll system is a bit demoralising for all the students who do not figure in it and for those who do they tend to take thier excellence for granted and in short become snobs in the making!what do you think?do you think that it is high time that this arcane practise was abolished?
