My fiance and I are going to Vanuatu in a few months and the trip is fully paid for. Mind you, a holiday to Vanuatu isn't that expensive! Well from Australia anyway. We plan to save up in advance for further overseas trips. When we return from Vanuatu we will pay off our credit cards and one of my personal loans and then begin putting away a certain amount of money each month for a trip to the US. A few of you will remember that I was planning my big trip to America this month but the circumstances changed and those plans have been put on hold. However I want to go to America more than ever now so that will definitely be my next overseas trip, probably in 2010. I just hope I can be strict enough on myself to save up!

yeah i know...even if we do get to save something, we would still have to clear time from work which would mean, unpaid time out---bummer...well good luck to the likes of us then---Thanks for responding!

Both! My wife and I love living in Southern California; it's easy enough to get a nice spontaneous "vacation" with a weekend trip to Santa Barbara (north), San Diego (south), or Las Vegas (east). It's no more than 4 hours to any of those places, if that, and it's a simple drive. With gas prices down, we've made a lot of those trips in the last month or so. But for big vacations, we definitely save. This year, we bought a timeshare and it came with a free cruise; we're taking a 7-day cruise in June once my student teaching job is over, but we're still saving for spending money and other expenses, like travel to the port.

I try to make it as spontaneous as possible... I do try to save moeny as well for those moments that I feel spontaneous... I usually go on a trip may be 2 - 3 times a year... I don't really plan out the trip, me & my girl friend & our daughter just pick up & go... I'd like to go on trips in off-seasons, though... Most of the things, hotels & such, are cheaper when you go on off-season...

We haven't been on vacation for two years, and it was our first family vacation. We vowed that we would start saving and it's taking us a lot longer than we thought to pull the money together to go again. We had such a great time that we really need to make this a yearly priority.

I haven't done any major traveling since 1992. In the past I had enough money, so I didn't need to save up. It's not that way any more.

We set aside $10.00 every week in our savings account for a yearly vacation and then we add our income taxes to it. Depending on how much it adds up to as to where we go. Sometimes we put a little extra in when we can but this year has been tough on everyone so we haven't decided whether we will take a trip or do some remodeling. I hasn't came o a vote yet! LOL

Hi, i don't have the habit for saving for a vacation. Just a random trip is okay with me. Also i don't go for tour often. May be if I start going i should think about saving for a destination. How often you go my friend?

I, unfortunately, don't travel much. I have to request work off at least a month in advance and I am in school getting ready to graduate. This makes it difficult to go on a spontaneous vacation. I am also the kind of person who likes to save money up so that I know I can splurge when I go on vacation. I like to know what my limits are, but save up so that my limits aren't too harsh while I'm out enjoying myself.
