My chair is getting fixed

After much discussion, the wheelchair mechanic and the seating guy who I saw today decided I needed a side support in my new chair and a hip guide. Hip guides are basically pieces of foam that guide your hips in the right place in the wheelchair so you don't fall over as I've been doing. I had all these things in my other chair yet I was stupid enough to let them tell me I didn't need them in my new one. I don't know why I did that. I know myself better than they ever will. I suppose it has something to do with feeling like I was less disabled than I actually am. They say people fall for that all the time and the evaluators and mechanics know it. I thought I had gotten beyond that, but I guess not. Never again, I tell you. Never again. So what if they have to work a little harder or lobby the state a little more to make sure I get what I need? That's their job. Once bitten, twice shy.

I am glad to hear that they are fixing it. I found the same thing with my son's new chair. It doesn't fit him well at all. We have at least 3 years before we can get one that suits him better. I will not fall for it again.

If it really doesn't fit, try to get him reevaluated. Making insurance pay for safe twice is not fun ahead of deadline, but it's possible. I know, I've done it!

It is more that it is the wrong chair for him. The footplates are out a ways from the chair. He wants to put his feet behind them which would be like how you sit in a regular chair. The chair has had to be fixed twice already and now the gear boxes are going out. The controller is not what we had ordered either, they just told us it was a better one. Wrong!! It has been an experience and I will be alot smarter the next time.
