Hey my fellow mylotters,Loyalty programs are structured marketing efforts that reward, and therefore encourage, loyal buying behaviour — behaviour which is potentially of benefit to the firm. For the airlines companies, who will structure this kinda program to attract their potential and/or exiting clients, from which the consumers could exchange the free air tickets using the loyalty programs, say the miles they accumulate.I'm a member of one of the local airline and I will buy the tickets of this company to accumulate my miles in order to upgrade and exchage the free tickets if I need in the future for my personal travel. How about you my friends?Have you joined any loyalty programs of airlines?Just share with us~

We do not travel enough to warrant being a member of an airline frequent flyer program and even when we do travel, it is generally by car. However we do have the option of converting our points on the credit card to a frequent flyer program so a couple of years ago we did that and gave them to our nephew who travels a lot. We are members of many other loyalty card programs though and in fact all the places we shop have them. Basically they are based on what we spent and points are allocated for that and at a later time we can convert the points for cash off shopping gift vouchers and several other things. Most years we generally have enough points to redeeem ir for something that we want and it does come in handy to get say the groceries a little bit cheaper. Where people have to be careful is to make sure that they are not paying more at one place simply to get the loyalty points. That is whether it is a frequent fler program, reduction or discount on groceries or whatever. Too many people see that they can get bonus points if they buy a certain thing and so they do that, when in fact it is a lot cheaper elsewhere.

We can save or make money from the loyalty programs we belong to but not use them unwisely. Sometimes there are much better deals, i.e. cheaper, by paying for the basic on offer and forgetting about accruing the loyalty points. Like everything else in this life, we have to weigh each offer up individually and choose the best option for ourselves.

Hey oldboy~it's correct of what you menitoned. For me the ff program is a extra benefit, which could be allowed me to convert/redeem some free things or even cash while flying with the say companies~However, just like you said,we can not ignore the cheaper fly elsewhere besides the qualified flies which could be used to accumulate the credit points~lol`~ Nice to have your response~Good days~~

I have been a member of Thai Airlines Royal Orchid programme for a few years now. The funny thing though, is that I have NEVER flown with Thai Airlines before! It was a quick decision made on my part at the time of joining and I wanted to be with an airline that was a part of the Star Alliance Network. A guy I worked with was with Royal Orchid and they ARE a Star Alliance member, so I went with them. The good thing is that there are some 20+ airlines in this network so I get to add points regularly. I have some 100,000+ points, but I have never used any of them to date.....

Yes I did join when I was in the Philippines since my work back then required me to travel from time to time. I was really excited about it but an opportunity came for me to work abroad thus the miles I accumulated back then might have been forfeited. It's a local airline so I can't travel nowadays with that airline. Maybe if I will get back to my homecountry I will try to check if I can still continue my membership with them.

It's not bad anyway,I mean working abroad. It'll be a great working experience for you during the time abroad. For the membership of your domestic airline company,I supporse it'll be valid as long as you keep it,however, the mileage has the effect date~Anyway, this is so kind of extra benefit of flying~just relax and enjoy~~

i am a F.F and member of many airlines' loyalty programmes. before i joined the first airlines, i thought it is not simple as getting free-tickets etc , it is not possible; but honestly telling you i have beniffted from this by getting discounted tickets, extra baggage allowance, etc It is worth becoming loyalty program member.

I have recently joined the loyalty programs of a couple of the local airlines and it is to get the free tickets or the upgrades whenever possible. No that i'm a very frequent flyer, but they also have a tie with Matercard for me to to be able to convert the points earned under the credit card to miles on the loyalty program of the airlines. Better a free air ticket then some of those gifts and certificates that they have on the card points redemption.

tonytt2009, I would not call them loyalty programs in the first place. I believe the more appropriate term will be Frequent Flyer Program, and it is unlike the aforementioned like supermarkets or departmental stores. Yes, I am a premium qualified member of a certain reputable airline and her partners in the alliance. I think above the perks of a free, discounted, upgrade of air travel, hotel accommodations, car rentals and other travel related perks - I feel that the recognition and essential services that comes with it really makes traveling a less mundane and hassle free. Imagine, priority exclusive check in service, excess baggage allowance, priority baggage handling, airport lounge facilities, inflight meals, arrival and departure transfers, inflight butler service, timely class upgrades, and etc. just makes these participation simply worthwhile. Repeats on these worthy airline(s) would not be an issue for us as end users and certainly a neither case for these hard working companies. So, I would say that this is another picture of a win-win situation picture. Cheers.

Though i'm a frequent flyer to neighbouring countries, but i'm not a member of any airlines.. ONe reason is that, i'm always choosing the cheapest available flights to fly.. ON top of that, it takes a long time for me to accumulate my mileage and sometimes the timing of those flights clash with what i wanted.. Thus, i dun wanna restrict myself to certain flights only.

I don't travel enough for this to be an incentive for me to stay with one airline. So I will look for the lowest price always when flying. My brother-in-law, however does alot of flying for business so he belongs to several programs. He has taken advantage of using his miles in a variety of ways. He is able to get get about 4 domestic round trip tickets a year. He has also used his miles for theme park tickets and hotel stays for vacations.
