My mom used to make these every so often when I was a kid. I hated them. I thought they were dry and awful. But recently I thought I would try to make them, only better! LOL So I am soaking the beans now. Wish me luck! Have you ever made Baked Beans?

I have made beans a few times now. and they are delicious! I soak them overnight, then cook them 5 mins boiling, then about 30 mins simmering. . till they are tender, but not too mushy.. Then i add bacon, molasses, brown sugar, vinager, mustard, and stick them in a crock pot for about 5 hours on high, toss some onion on the top. mm. wonderful. I use cattlebeans.. they are larger beans.

I have never made them from scratch before. What are you putting in them? I am guessing by now ( 4 hours later) that they are done. How did they turn out?

You could try mixing in a little bit of water with the leftovers and pop them in the oven at a low temp for about an hour. That will probably soften the beans up a bit more.

Hi. vicki2876. I have never made baked beans from scratch before. But I have cooked baked beans that have been in the can. I love cooking baked beans, it is very delicious to eat. I hoped that your baked beans recipe turned out just fine.

I have always enjoyed baked beans especially with hot dogs. It is a great combination. My son also likes them. I like the barbecued kind or the kind of baked beans that are mixed in with brown sugar. There are times when I buy the ordinary baked beans with tomato sauce that you can buy in a can. I sometimes add ketchup to them for flavor. Not bad.

I fix baked beans all the time it is one of our favorites. I use tomato sauce, salt & pepper, brown sugar,a little mustard, chopped onion and bake until they are done. They will dry out if you bake them too long but they are soupy if you underbake them too. Keep your eye on them(usually takes about an hour) and you'll find right where you like them best! LOL Good Luck!

Thanks for the recipe! It doesn't have the dreaded molasses that my mom used *Barf*
