Broken and itchy!

January 19, 2009 3:00pm CST
My girlfriend recently broke her leg. Thankfully she is on the mend. A few tough days, but thats to be expected. Anyway, today she has been complaining about itching under her cast, and she is getting frustrated. I know, as I'm sure everyone does, how annoying the out of reach itch can be. Does anyone have any tips on how to deal with them or take her mind off it?

Well, I know that the doctors won't like this idea, but I've seen people will legs or arms in plaster who use a knitting needle (number 9 or 10 I think's best) to scratch the itch away, but the needle should really be sterilised first. That's not a medical opinion, it's just what I've seen people do. I know how nasty it is to have an itch that can't be scratched, she'll possibly go mad if she doesn't scratch it.

Yes, they do have numbers, the numbers indicate the sizes.Hmmm, yup, she's half way there already I reckon. :P

I know the knitting needle trick (they have numbers?) and I've even heard of people using wire coat hangers. I know it's going to drive her mad, but lets face it, I don't think it will be too long a journey.

Just hit her over the head with a mallet, not useful but it's what I'll do with her.

Well, that would work, but it's not the best idea as she'll end up not only having a broken leg, but concussion too, so she might end up getting disorientated and not remembering which is the toilet and which is the bed.

It is a great idea. And the concussion will help her forget the broken leg. But then again she might try to walk on it. At least I wouldn't be lifting it as often tho. So many pros and cons. I must do what I don't do too often... MAKE A LIST!

You have probably got this sorted now. I agaree with Dory; get a knitting needle or a long chopstick. Just go easy with the scratching as one slip and stitches can get torn etc. Happy scratching!
