I was looking through some articles that had been recently released due to the impending inaugaral balls and inauguration day that will be happening tomorrow. I can't believe the things that people will put themselves through!! "At President Bill Clinton's record breaking 14 inaugural balls in 1997, boxed wine was served, ham and cheese sandwiches cost $5.50, and police had to calm guests waiting an hour and a half in the coat check line. Irate Democrats began chanting, "We want our coats. Now." Police had to be called in for crowd control and coat distribution." My question would be, how many of you would go through all that trouble and fuss to be at an inaugeration. To me, it just doesn't seem worth it.. I mean, it seems absolutely ridiculous to think that police had to be brough in just to hand out COATS. And this is at something that is supposed to be dignified and historic!

You wouldn't have caught me with in a hundred miles of DC today. Why on earth would anyone subject themselves to this. Spend all day in a city under martial law, crammed in like sardines, constantly acosted by people selling Obama merchandise, freezing, probably a mile away from the stage, to watch something that happens every 4 years. Cripe, this is just plain silly.

You have a point, I was watching the parade earlier and it looked like people were actually getting crushed against the fences. The police didn't seem concerned, they acted like their only concern was for the President's well-being (which is understandable but the citizen's safety should be a priority too). I would be worried about how safe some of these events truly are.

A presidential inauguration must be some kind of an event organiser's nightmare..I was reading they were expecting numbers in the millions on the streets of DC alone for the event, and crowd control measures mean certain metro stations will be closed for the duration, buses would be diverted, streets closed, and people could be standing around several hours waiting...thinking of bringing kids along for this historic occasion? strollers and backpacks are among the list of items forbidden along the route..I wouldn't like Young'uns along in wintry conditions to be out for a good portion of the day..Good luck to all those prepared to attend, though!

They ended up having two million people attending just the inagueration portion of the events. I heard that people started showing up many hours before the event was scheduled to begin because it was supposed to be so packed and as early as an hour beforehand some people with tickets were being turned away because there was no room left!!
