Finding a publisher

I find the hardest part about trying to be a writer is publishing your work. Most traditional publishing houses won't even look at an unknown's work. Most places you find on the internet are self-publish companies that cost a lot of money. I was wondering if any of you folks know how to get the big publishers attention.
