I had lasik eye surgery to correct being nearsighted about 10 years ago. Since then there have been several advances and I am not famaliar with all of them. One is they now use a laser to cut the flap rather than a blade like when I had it, unless something newer I am not aware of has replaced that. There is also some new way called "something" wave that is supposed to be better. I am guessing that some of the same problems still exist however. The two main problems would be dry eyes from nerves being damages when the flap is cut and if a person has large pupils, then at night when the pupils get really large because of the low light level they may exceed the area of the eye that could be changed by the laser surgery and then one will get a "star" effect aroung lights and some bright things may not be as clear. For example I can no longer see the features(craters, etc.) of the moon at night like I used to with my glasses. I can still see them with a bright full moon in the daylight however.

I had my eyes lasered back in September of 2008 so not that long ago. It was very expensive at $2700.00 canadian. But it was worth every penny. I would do it again no problem. I paid for insurance at $400 for 5 years so if I need it done again I won't have to pay for it.
I am sure I will have to get it done again in September as, as time goes by my site gets a little worse. I used to be able to read the channels on the TV when looking at the TV guide station but now I can;t anymore so I know I will have to have what they call an enhancement. That's where they make the flap again, same one, and burn off, laser, more of the cornea so more light can get in so I can see clearer.
It hurts to have it done, I won't lie to you. It doesn't hurt at the time they are doing it but once the freezing comes out it hurts for about 24 hours. I had drops to use but they didn't really help with the pain, more just for lubricating them. But I would and probably will get them done again as it is worth the pain.
It is so nice to not have to wear glasses after wearing them and contact lenses, for over 40 years. I wouldn't hesitate and I would recommend it to everyone who asks about it.
