Does anyone else think the achievements system on the 360 is a lazy way of adding content to a game. Remember the days when you bought games like GTA cos you knew literally hours would be spent unlocking secrets. (One off cars, special weapons etc) My point being that content is actually being cut out in favour of these horrible, horrible acheivements. What's the point in playing games if you're never rewarded with anything!

I don't think its a way of adding lazy content. As stupid as it sounds, I like replaying games even when I finish them, and achievements kinda add to this for me as it gives me things to aim for when replaying.

the achievement system does add a certain replay value to a game. Take Oblivion for example. I got bored really easy with this game but I kept playing it even after I completed the main quest just to up my gamer score. Also to validate your point once you complete the main quest certain things become open to you that were not before (not enough to make friggin difference mind you but its there none the less) There are quite a few games that will reward you for completeing the main story and even completeing achievements. There's nothing that says that both types of reward systems can't be in place. I think who you should really be frustrated with is the game designers. They are the ones who tend to abandon giving you cool toys upon game completion over the achievement system. It's not that it can't be done it's just they don't do it as much as they probably should.

I think the achievements add more replay value. It's nice to have more to do than just finishing the game.
