I've read in many places that most viruses install or creep into our windows folder in the C drive. This seems to be a reason why linux or mac OS users are safer and more secure. Once i had to change computers, and our engineers accidentally switched the C and D drives - Windows was in D and customized folders in C - and i have to say, i had very less virus intereference then. Well, we bought a new PC a few months back and windows and viruses are back in C. Do you think is a solution to avoid viruses?

Yes thats because most of the users make C: as their windows installation drive, so it becomes handy easy for the virus writers to get the system infected easily. I have seen 95% of the people install their windows in C drive & a virus writer can easily predict the windows folders especially the system32 one & infect it. Even out of my experience when I changed my windows installation to another drive other than C the virus infection was pretty low. Even I have designed some simple small prank viruses with which I have played with my friends just for fun purpose & you know what those who had not installed their windows in C drive escaped from it. So I would advise all to change the drives next time to install any OS.

Thanks for your advice. I'll ask them to move windows to D next time. I have vista over there now, and i dont think its possible to change drives without dataloss once its all done and running. If tere's any way, please keep me informed.

yes, you cannot migrate the OS files from one drive to another without formatting. So the next time you do a format, just remember to install your OS in someother drive other than C.
