Writing a book

What would be the first step in writing a book? I already know what I want it to be about. Is their any websites out their that really help you to write a book step by step. I want to write a book about marriage. Will I have to dish out alot of money to start a book? And how do you go about self publishing?

I would definitely do some preliminary work before you decide to publish. First, I would review books already out there on your topic, especially those published by independent or small publishers. Then, I would draft a preliminary outline and proposal. I'd see a professional editor or agent to insure you're on the right track. I'd actually get a good draft written before looking into self-publishing.
