Are police treated the same or different?

I was reading in a newspaper this morning that a police officer was arrested again on drunk driving charges. This was his third time being charged with drinking and driving. He was arrested a year ago on these charges after causing an accident on the highway. He was relieved from duty in August 2007 after a dispute over an $8 cab fare in Sylvan Lake which led to criminal charges. It is not the first time he has been in trouble with the law, nor is this the first time he is accused of alcohol-related charges. I know that if it were some normal person that he would have sustained harsher penalties. What about where you live? Do the police catch breaks when they do something wrong? Do you think that he should have still had his job after the first or second incident? I mean he was let go after an incident with a cabbie and not because of the drinking and driving. Your thoughts please?

At times I think the police are treated differently. In my opinion police need to be set to a higher stanard when it comes to discipline. Where they are to stop crime. If they are found to repeatily commit crimes. They should be punished and stripped of being a police officer. If they can't serve and protect, they don't deserve the job or the title that goes with it.

I hear you there. I think that they should definately be held to a higher standard. I mean after all we are supposed to trust them aren't we.
