Someone who takes a supposing as a fact

I was wondering whether other mylotters have the problem when they give a supposition, that there are people who take that as a fact and that it will actually happen or did happen? Usually it is about someone important who they admire, but I was wondering how do you deal with it? I tend to get very angry because I give clues such as underlining, using italics or bold print in part of the supposition so they will get the hint. So when you write some thing like "presuming A decides to throw B in prison," or "if O-- makes a law that anyone of a certain religion has to --" and you get a reply back that they take it as meaning, "A is going to throw B in prison," or "O- has already put his signature on a law that anyone ==" How do you handle it? Do you assume that the replier is a loyal follower who assumes that the important person can do no wrong? Or that no one should ever criticize it, or do you take it as an attempt to make sure you never say anything bad about you know?

Easier said then done, because they might be the kind who gets everyone of their cronies to minus you.

I was wondering that. I thought it was because I was pro-life, loved people more than animals and was a Christian. I did not it was because they did not read the discussions properly.

i have noticed it just now, suspenseful that you have a seven star. so they have minused you and that's what has caused the seven star! anyway, i never used to notice those stars unless something suggestive is in the air like the way we are talking about the ratings momentarily. so, those guys who do not have the heart to read the lines correctly before posting, have the temerity to give those minuses yet? my, that's adding insult to injury, dear friend. i hope that they'd realize how unfair they can get and stop doing this bad, bad thing to us around here.

We all have to read through what others write and not let our emotions get in the way.

It does drive me crazy, having someone think that it is a fact when it is not.

I get that all the time. Even when I say it is hypothedical question. Than I am told it si a dumb question. It doesn't matter what you try. There willa lways be someone misreading or forming their own opinion now matter what you do.

It does annoy me. I get it mostly from the fanatics and I am not talking about the religious fanatics, who start ranting and raving.

hello, suspenseful, have a good day, my friend. maybe those who had responded that way, read your lines to mean that way. perhaps there is a need for us originators of discussions to make our points clear. there are some around here who wants to post their responses fast and quick. so, they do not do much thinking anymore. we can't blame them for so doing. they just want to be able to post more and more yet, to earn some more of course.

I try to be clear, but when I put if in bold letters, would that not be enough to know that it is a theory and not fact?

It depends on where it is happening. For example, I would say it happens on Mylot quite a bit. I see it all the time. I used to argue, and try to explain my point or that I did not say it actually happened. However, I have given this sort of thing some though. On Mylot when that happens, I just ignore them and don't bother. They are not worth it to me. In my personal life outside mylot, it does not happen much. When it does, I simply say that I did not say that. People who choose to take supposing as a fact get defensive about it fall into three catagories...1) They did not listen to your carefully. 2) They are such followers of the person you are speaking of that they really want to get into your face. Or they really don't like you and want to still get into your face. All of those people are a waste of my time so I avoid them.

Sometimes I feel like giving up. I hate the idea of someone talking down to me, and I am sure that they would hate the idea of me saying 1 this is what might have happened, 2. I do not know someone personally like that," etc. but sometimes I feel that it is no good. I am more inclined to believe that these are such fanatics of this person that they have elevated him to godhood. And maybe they do not like me.

I don't know how to deal with it online but I KNOW for fact, I have this problem while SPEAKING in the real world and it's a huge pet-peeve of mine. I will actually say, "let's suppose" or "what if" and next thing I know, someone is coming up to me a week later telling me I said this, that or whatever. Most of the time it's because I either get cut-off in mid sentence or the conversation is redirected and the original intent or question gets buried. It's a huge frustration

Winterrose (you might know her) emphasizes that her discussion is hypothetical, not real. That might help readers understand that the topic is an "IF" and not a fact. Good luck, answering responses that think it's real -- *sigh*

I happen to be the type who flies off the handle, but I do read posts over just in case, and it does make me upset when someone takes things as ifs as really happened. You just can't win.

I will usually correct them and apologize that I did not make myself clear. However, there are some people that are obviously not going to listen to reason--not many, but some, and I just ignore those replies.

Maybe I should. It does make me upset and I sometimes feel like giving them a good talking to, plus making them stand in front of the blackboard and write one hundred lines of "If means it might happen, not it will happen."
