As many of you know there's been sort of a history making recall of peanut butter which at first was only limited to a "few" peanut butter products...but yikes the list is growing by leaps and bounds...not only certain peanut butter crackers, but ice cream, cookies...just about anything and everything that has peanut butter in it....including cookies from Famous Amos...peanut butter products from Walmart Bakery..the list is staggering
Worse...now a recall of certain dog biscuits that use peanut butter as a paste in its manufacturing...I give a listing of all the suspect peanut butter products...
This list comes from this source---go to this link and one can click on each individual listing for more information and one can even download more info here:

Here's another article about the recall in general
http://www.abcnews.go.com/WN/story?id=6702141&page=1
Now in all the articles I'm reading about this, they emphasize that jarred peanut butter is safe...OH REALLY? WOULD YOU TRUST IT??
And as far as dog biscuits...so far it only lists those made for Pet Smart...uh, but would you trust ANY dog food snack that MIGHT have a peanut butter paste in it??
All I like to know....what the frick is going on here?? Why are we having so many outbreaks of not only salmonella but e. coli as well?

I've always been suspicious of the safty of pet foods. When the ingredient labels list 'by-products', who really knows (or wants to know) what that is? For that reason, I've always made the food for our 2 dogs. There are a number of websites with recipes for making pets foods from scratch. I done it that way, and also using dry mixes (all made with human-quality foods) that are mixed with meat, veggies and fruit. Once you get used to making it, it's actually pretty easy.

Ekk! I wonder what they mean by "by-products" also....or maybe we DON'T want to know..LOL. Oh, and thanks for that email mentioning that organic type pet food. It's a bit expensive though. Would hate to get it only to find out my cats won't eat it..my two kitties are really spoiled brats...LOL

Your quite welome on the organic food. Don't be fooled by the price...it goes a long long way. One bag of the dog food mix lasts around 10 months...for 2 dogs. Also, if you call them expressing an interest, they are great for sending samples. I made granola cookies once, my son loved them...lol.

Holy crap! Ouchie! Well, I may have not entirely paid attention, but I hope nutter butter wasn't in that. Well I guess we won't be buying any PB products any time soon. We do have a recently bought package of Nutter Butters that's almost eaten, but neither myself nor my fiance has gotten sick so I assume they are clear. Still, I'll have to break the news to him that he shouldn't buy them for a while. H loves them a ton!

Mmmm....I heard that this contaminated peanut butter might go back at least six months and our wonderful FDA is only NOW making it public

Hey pye! What a scary world we live in! It's getting to be
so that you have to be afraid to eat anything anymore! You
have to think twice before you put anything into your mouth!
I just don't understand it either! How can so many foods be
contaminated so easily? It just doesn't make any sense! How
do all these different brands become related? What do they
have to do with each other? And then they say that a jar of
peanut butter is safe to eat? Huh? I'm just not understanding
this particular recall! We have to think about every item
we buy in the grocery store and take home and wait until
how long before using just in case it is recalled for some
reason? I give up!

The peanut butter and peanut butter paste was manufactured at one plant then distributed by the ton quite literally to the other companies...so they used that peanut butter and paste not realizing it was contaminated...but sheesh even though the FDA claims jarred peanut butter is safe ...mmm..not going to trust it..for a LONG while...and nuts, I love peanut butter!

I always thought peanut butter was bad for dogs because they are nuts. I had to check for myself. Apparently peanuts are a legume that grows underground and a not a nut. I guess my dog can finally have peanut butter after this outbreak is over.

I really don't know why in general though why people want to give peanut butter to their dogs, I mean it's not a regular kind of food to give them, like meat is

Hi Pye, yes pray tell what exactly is going on here? Where is the protection for the consumers? I really hate to see this because so many people have health conditions that getting something like this could be so fatal.....where does this end....will it ever?

Pye I don't trust any peanut butter. They can say what they want to. If peanut butter is not good on such a wide scale then it's not good at all until these plants clean up their act and their factories.
Until I'm told they have done this I will not buy anything that has peanut butter in it.
I was not aware of it being in dog biscuits this is a major concern for me as I buy tons of these for my 4 babies they just love them.
I will buy a dehydrator and make their treats like I've been wanting to do.

I don't trust any peanut butter either, even the jarred kind that the FDA says is safe...oh, yeah, right...like I can trust them..LOL...supposedly this peanut butter recall might stem back to peanut butter made at least six months ago...you mean it took them ALL this time to announce a recall??

Wow! So which products are supposed to be safe now? I can't believe that this is happening. The governmnent should do its job better when it comes to regulating these products. I think that there is something terrible wrong in the system somewhere. It's not normal for having so many products tainted with Salmonella and e. coli being sold in the market. There has to be proper quality control when it comes to food products.

Our FDA certainly is sleeping on the job. Why aren't food products tested before being distributed to the public?

Wow pye what a list of foods that have been recalled. I did not know that Salmonella had been found in all that those foods. I think it is so horrible that there is so many out breaks of salmonella here lately. I also think it is horrible that they blamed the tomato industry of having salmonella instead it was the jalapino peppers from Mexico that was tainted. What if it is not the peanuts what if it is an additive in the peanuts do you suppose some poeple are afraid of eating whole peanuts and peanut butter in the jar even though they say they are say.

I have no idea if it's an additive to the peanut paste that is contaminated or the peanuts themselves...to be honest wouldn't trust fresh peanuts either, would you? And nope, I wouldn't trust peanut butter in a jar either

They found the company that has the problem for the peanut butter problems. You would think that when this scare first came out they would have cleaned up their act so they would not be caught. They are responsible for killing 6 people and making hundreds of others sick now they need to go to prison and having the key thrown away or fed salmonella.

It does seem all these contaminated foods are happening in this country. But then remember that business of melamine found in milk products in China that even included baby formula?

HI Pye; Yikes! I knew the list was getting bigger and bigger but had no idea it had just gotten STAGGERING HUGE!! HOLY COW!!!
Yeah I heard too on the news this morning that they keep saying the JARS of peanut
butter are ok, but I have to wonder about this too; I had bought a new jar like
a month or so ago and I've ate several sandwiches of it and not gotten sick; So
I am guessing its ok but yet I feel like I need to throw it out you know?
My Dad has two jars of the stuff he's not even opened ; Its so scary
EVERYTHING we eat and touch and breath any more is so freakin dangerous;
what do we do go live in a bubble?
thanks for your hard work at posting all of this;
pssstt! Go read what I posted under your post in my spider discussion, you
crazy woman LOL!!

Our Salmonella list just continues to grow, huh? What a shame, there have been way too many outbreaks/recalls, makes you wonder if it's all done deliberately.

The girl scout cookies are not on the recall list, thankfully. I also make my own dog biscuits so I know he's safe as well. I still eat peanut butter but am cautious on the brands I buy.

OMG Pye! Thank you so much for the information. I didn't realize all of this was re-called, good gracious me. I will have to tell all my friends too.
I'd like to know what the heck is going on already. I've never in my life seen so much stuff being re-called over the last couple of years. It's getting downright scary. And where are all these problems coming from?
Years ago you might have heard of one or two maybe being re-called, but this is like a total outbreak. Sounds like someone is trying to get rid of all of us, hmmmm. Makes you wonder doesn't it?

I have read about this a few days ago. I think this is because of how they handle such product. From what I understand this is cause by one particular brand of peanut butter supply. Since this brand is use by other products, it will of course affect the rest. Well, here in our country I have not heard yet if such product haver reached our grocery stores. I am keeping my eyes and ears open. It is good to be prepared.

Yes this peanut butter does seem to be coming from one source, but they ship the stuff by the ton practically so it's used in so many peanut butter related products..so yup a lot of things affected.

It is a shame and it really does make one stop and think! I try not to buy too many processed foods but I guess Peanut Butter is an exception to my rule. I cannot make my own. I am very disappointed in this. I am hoping that we can get most of our veggies from our own garden this year. I have also invested in chickens and ducks and soon rabbits will be added to the list of livestock. Consumers should be very cautious these days with what they purchase. Thank you for the post with the list of products on it.
