It is rumored that there will be a new karate kid movie due 2010. it stars Jayden Smith, son of Will Smith as Daniel Jacky Chan will also play as the mentor, Mr Miyagi. It will be produced by Will Smith. I think Jayden Smith is way too young for this part. They should've casted a teenager. I like Jacky Chan whatever role he's in. I think he'll give the Mr. Miyagi character some flavor. What do you think?

I heard about this a couple days ago and all I can say is please, NO! I am a fan of the original movies, with the first movie being my favorite. I have a problem when Hollywoud tries to make over movies that were good and hits their first go round. (remember the Psycho remake several years ago, what was the point?) Now this remake has a whole bunch of problems from the get-go with the casting of a 10 yr old to play Daniel. There are several plot lines that were in the original that I don't think will work for a ten year old. For example, we know that bullying can happen at any age, but do we really want to see that extreme with kids this age? Another one, the whole romance that Daniel has in the original, which happens to be a major reason why he gets bullied. even the driving storyline.... Ok, I see these things as integral parts of the original story. I don't see how they can work it out so that it fits into the life of a 10 yr old unless they do major changes to the story. And if they do that, why not just come up with a new story? As for Jackie Chan playing Mr Miyagi, even this I'm not sure I like. Mr. Miyagi was very unassuming almost to the point of being mysterious. You'd never look at him and think there goes a grand master of karate. With each movie you were given a little more to the Mr Miyagi puzzle and yet you would find out that you really didn't know him. Jackie chan is a master in martial arts, no doubt. But whereas Mr Miyagi did have a few silly moments, for the most part his character is very subdued. I don't think I have ever seen Jackie Chan is a role that is subdued. So, once again, I'm really not looking forward to this movie. I hope it surprises me and it's better than I'm expecting. But, the bar is set really low for my expectations.

I loved the Karate Kid movies. I'll be glad to see another one come out. I don't feel that Jayden is too young though. I agree that Jackie Chan will be great in the role of Mr. Miyagi. It should be a fantastic movie. I can't wait until it comes out. Thanks for the heads up.

I'm not really fond of Karate Kid movies, specially when they featured that girl, it just turned me off. Anyhow, we'll see, I guess having Jackie Chan play Mr. Miyagi would give the movie a little bit more funny bones, if they know how to give Jackie Chan more fun in playing the movie. I've noticed that Jackie Chan characters in American film aren't the Jackie Chan we Asians know about his Chinese movies. American movies make him stiff, he's more fun playing Chinese movies.
