Christian Horror????

I am a voracious reader, but I usually stay away from the horror genre. I like to sleep peacefully at night. My daughter gave me a copy of HOUSE, by Frank Peretti and Ted Dekker. She told me it was Christian horror. I had never heard of such. So I read it, and it has some terrifying scenes, but the message is one any preacher can and probvably should be preaching! Have you read the book? Have you heard of Christian horror?

I've read his earlier works, and they were good, but memorably -- in a scary way. I haven't looked into his later ones. I can't even stay in the room with a TV show when it gets suspenseful; doubtful I would watch the new movie. I guess you really have to like horror first to like Christian horror second.

I would never watch the movie, but I made myself read the book, since my daughter gave it to me and thought I would like the message. The message was excellent, but delivered at too intense a level for my tastes.

You know, it could reach some folks. I know one in particular that would be drawn to it.

I steer clear of horror too, for the same reason you do. I guess that is why I have not heard of Christian horror. What is the message of the book?

The premise is that most of us spend hiding most our lives hiding our guilt and that one of the most terrifying things in life is facing one's own sinfulness. The message is that the only way to rid ourselves of those things is to face them honestly.

Yes! My son loves these books! House was actually made into a movie. I'm not sure how well it did at the box-office though.

I saw a trailer on the movie, it was just released in November, I believe. The movie did not look nearly as scary as the book was. But how many movies live up to the books?
