here we go again this makes 2 salmonella outbreaks so far this year. dog treats are being recalled because of samonella so i'm just letting the dog owners know. after the last dog food scare and dog's dying of kidney failure i started making my own treats-------------1 pound of beef liver--2 eggs--1/2 cup whole wheat flour ---mix it all up, this is where a food grinder or processor works well or just chop up the liver in small pieces, put the mixture on a cookie sheet 10 by 12 lined with parchment paper and bake at preheated 350 for 15 minutes. it will be spongee and the dog's love em also if your dog is diabetic there's no sugar in this, and if you give your dog a treat after his shot he'll be lookin forward to getting the shot and their treats. after their cooked just square off cookies with a pizza cutter.

Thanks for the recipe! Do you know one for dry dog biscuits too? What brand(s) is in the recall?

To clarify, I mean like the dry bone shaped type treats. Usually come in plain, cheese, veggie, or other flavors. Or if you know of a recipe that's flavored with honey - as a special treat.

Thanks for the recipe. I heard about this last night. We have a couple of people here that got sick with the salmonella in the peanut butter. They mentioned the dog treats and I though it kind of odd because they said it shouldn't hurt the dogs but it would hurt us just by handling the treats so wash your hands after giving it to them. Huh? Why take the chance whether it will hurt the dog or not, or even if there was no way possible for it to hurt the dog, why take the chance of keeping those treats around, feeding them out of habit, forgetting to wash after touching them and then getting poisoned yourself. It's not worth the risk.

Good grief!! I hadn't heard about the salmonella in dog treats. Funny, you'd think it'd be getting a little more coverage in the news. I'll have to do a search and see what brands of treats have been affected. I have a shepherd, and my daughter has a little shitzipoo, and I was going to get treats on the next shopping spree...then I saw this post. (Glad I saw it too...thank you for the heads up!!) Thanks so much too for the treat recipe, the only thing I need to put on my list is the liver.
