My gas fireplace isn't very warm!

It doesn't have a flue like I'm used to, just an opening with a covering. If I take off the tin covering completely, all the heat seems to go up the chimney. If I just crack it, it's still not very warm. It has ceramic logs that supposedly hold and radiate heat but I sure can't feel it warming up the room any!
Any suggestions?

That's just silly then, having something for the sake of appearance. I had one where I previously lived that worked quite well, I think this one is old. The ceramic logs are really ugly, too.

Yeah I think you should contact with an expert about it. It seems ok but have no proper heat so something wrong with it. Anyway, how much fuel you need to go with fireplace monthly? Actually I wish to know how it cost you? In my country we don't have to go with fireplace, So I interested to know how much you have to pay extra only for fireplace or heat.

Gas fireplaces don't cost very much to run, about ten cents per hour. I think I will call an expert this summer, I would really like for it to work properly in case the heating system fails.
