I just found out that the store I work at is closing for 2 weeks. (no pay) I expected to be working the first week because last year we worked the first week cleaning and painting and tonight the boss said we arent doing that this time. I am allready behind in all my bills about to get evicted, power shut off etc.... plus my 2nd job is cleaning my bosses house and I wont be able to do that either. I am worried that they will decide durring that 2 weeks to close the store for good because of the economy. I dont know if I should look for another job (not really any around here) or what.

You are eligible for unemployment benefits for those two weeks! If the place you work at shuts down temporarily, for whatever reason, and you don't get paid for that time, you are eligible for unemployment benefits. I have a friend who applies for unemployment benefits, and gets them, whenever his company shuts down for a week or more. He's in concrete construction and bad weather prevents them from working sometimes. Snow storms, flooding, whatever reason they can't work, the company just shuts down and my friend applies for unemployment insurance and gets a check pretty quickly after applying. You can do this, too. Since you live in New York, here is the link to the New York Department of Labor where you can file for unemployment benefits online: https://ui.labor.state.ny.us/UBC/home.do . As for the store closing permanently, you can also apply for unemployment benefits, assuming you have worked for the past 5 'quarters' (1 year and 3 months). That can help some. You can also apply to Social Services for emergency funds if you have an eviction notice or turn-off notice for your power. I'd suggest you do that right away! If I were you, I'd start looking for another job right away. With the economy the way it is, jobs are scarce and the sooner you start looking, the sooner you'll find another job. Try not to get discouraged! If you don't find something right away, keep looking! Something is bound to turn up. Apply at your local State Employment Office, too. They can help you look for a job. Apply at every single job placement service you can find, too. Apply everywhere! Good luck to you! Post as much as you can here, too, because every penny counts these days. I wish you the best!

I am sorry to hear that and I hope for your sake that they do not close down for good. I work in an airport and if people do pull out and start flying to other airports that are cheaper as they are threatening to do than we will all be having to cut our hours which could leave a lot of people in a bind trying to pay their bills. I have though about trying to find a nre job but I just hate to be the new person since if they started lay offs I would be one of the first to go so I am trying to stick it out where I am and have people that haven't been there as long as me.

That is so sad... i would feel a lot of stress if i am in that sort of situation... so... i think you should start looking for another job... just to play it safe... and while you are not working in that two weeks... just keep yourself busy with online earnings... not too much but still money that you can use for your everyday needs...
