Have you ever been shopping in a store and have your named called over the loud speaker?
I did today and it scared the life out of me! I was doing my weekly grocery shopping at Sam's Club, and I was just about done when I heard them say my name on the loud speaker and call me up to the front desk. I completely panicked!!
My first thought was that one of the kids was sick. See, one of them had to come home sick from school yesterday, and I had to go pick him up. But once he got home he was fine, so I decided to send him in to school today. So when I heard my name my first thought was that he was sick and I'd have to go pick him up from school. I knew hubby knew where I was, I'm always at that store at that hour, so my guess was the school called him at work and he called the store to reach me.
But then, I thought something worse. What if hubby had been in an accident or something like that?
I had all sorts of horrible thoughts running through my head!
So I get up to the desk, terrified out of my wits.... and guess what?
They handed me my purse! The baby must have dropped it out of the basket when I wasn't looking, and I never even noticed. Then someone must have picked it up and turned it in. They got my name from my license, obviously, and called my name to return it to me. Luckily I would have figured it out eventually because my car keys were in my purse, but my credit card was not, it was in my pocket because I'd just paid for gas! And I don't carry cash on me, so I really had nothing to worry about.
Has this ever happened to you?

I have been there before, but not as exiting as your experience. I am expecting to be called at the information desk. Because i was playing trick with my friend and she been shopping at "not Interesting" discount box. and i left her to see other things that more interesting. Kinda Hide&seek games. LOL

LOL, I imagine that was quite a relief! I've never had my name called but I did get a "would the owner of a red such and such please come to customer service" at a grocery store once. I didn't know what the heck it could be, I wasn't parked anywhere I shouldn't have been or anything. Turns out that the ravens were having quite a feast on the groceries from the previous store that we had left in the box of the pick up. It was literally the first time we ever went grocery shopping and we certainly learned a valuable lesson! I'm glad the store did that or we would have come out of the store to find ALL our groceries demolished.

Oh wow! Yes it is a good thing they let you know. I guess you keep your groceries inside the truck now, huh?

Oh, you poor dear. I would have been a little scared myself. I don't even like for my cell phone to ring when my son is at preschool.
I was once in an airport baggage claim area chatting away with my sister when she laughed about how the loud speaker voice sounded like Charlie Brown's teacher.... not a word was understandable. I said something along the lines of, "I suppose you would recognize your own name if it was said" when only minutes later I hear them say my name. Weird, but I wasn't a mom yet so I didn't have those little momentary times of terror that occasionally hit me now.
I was off to the side being told by someone that they called me to inform me my luggage had not made it from Dallas, when I see my luggage pass by on the conveyior belt. "But there it is" ............ oh, okay ma'am, we're sorry for the inconvience.

I have never had my purse given back to me in a store, but I once lost my wallet and I was freaking out about it when I got home from the store. I got a call about an hour later from some guy. He said that he had found it in a shopping cart and grabbed it. He looked up my phone number and since he lived not that far away he brought it by the house.

You're pretty lucky the guy returned it. I'm lucky too that my purse was returned, but the only important thing in it was my car keys, that would have been a huge bummer, although I do have a spare at the house. The only important thing in my wallet at the time other than our insurance cards was my ID.

After my husband and I were married, we went on a little traveling honeymoon.
we went to Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard, and ended in Atlantic City. My husband was in the room, and I was downstairs gambling. I was doing really good at a machine. then I heard my name over the loudspeaker. It was kind of strange, because I wasn't really used to my married name yet.
I gathered my coins, and left the machine to use the house phone to answer the call. It was my husband wanting to know where I was at.
I thanked him for breaking my lucky streak, when we went back to the machine I was playing at, someone else was there, and all I saw and heard was the bells ringing, and lucky 777 across the screen.

I bet that ticked you right off! Too bad you didn't have a cell phone back then, then you wouldn't have had to leave your machine.

Lol, sorry but it's kind of funny. We always think the worse in a situation like this, I'm glad it wasn't anything bad. I thought it was funny how your baby dropped your purse and you didn't realize it, my daughter does that to me all the time. Most of the time I won't realize she threw something away, only when I get home and notice it's missing, I wish someone would call me out every time that happened!

I don't think I've ever been paged over the loud speaker. At least not that I can remember. That would freak me out. You are lucky that someone actually returned your purse. I've seen those dateline or such specials where they test whether people will do the right thing like going back in the store if they are given too much change or helping someone who is in trouble and so many people won't do the right thing. I can imagine how scared you were till you got up there and found out what they were calling you for. I'm glad it wasn't your family.

It is really scary! Especially if you have done nothing wrong. I haven't experience it yet. But if did happen to me, I will feel the same. A lot of bad thought will rush on my mind.

No I have never had my name called over the loud speaker in a store!! It was lucky that your purse was handed in I mean even though you carry no cash it would still have been a pain with your car keys in it!!

Yes, I have had my name called over the loud speaker. Normally I knew it was someone that I had went to the store with who was just looking for me.
I have left my son's diaper bag in the cart at Wal-Mart before. I got all the way home before I realized what I had done. I had put my checkbook in the side pocket and everything, I was totally freaking out. I called Wal-Mart and right after I had left someone turned it in. Thank God no one took my checkbook.

Hey kats! I'll bet that was scary! Wow! It was nice of
whoever did find it to turn it in just the same! There are
too many creeps out there who would just as soon ran out of
the store with bag and the keys and done God knows what!
The could have gone to your home and let themselves in! You
just never know what could happen! I tend to not pay enough
attention to my own purse when I'm shopping because it gets
too heavy on my shoulder and then I put it down and forget!
And I keep everything in there when I'm shopping! We really
have to pay more attention because we don't know what could
happen!
