As a parent you need to take strict measures when hiring a babysitter. You also have your personal preferences as well. You might require certain qualifications too. Of course, we're talking about the safety and the well being of your children. What are those things that you search for before making a decision?

I haven't actually hired a sitter in years. I'm a stay at home mom, so have no real need for a sitter. But there have been occasions I wanted someone to watch them for a bit so hubby and I could go out. In such cases I mostly ask around and see who comes recommended. The sitter I hired was a daughter of a woman who worked at my twins preschool. She had previous experience babysitting her nephew. I was nervous at first, but as it turns out, when things got tough for her she called her mom or sister over to help her, so that was good. If I decided to go to work and needed a sitter, and couldn't get someone I already knew well, I'd mostly look for someone with good recommendations. I'd want references to call so I knew this person could be trusted.
