Do you have a budget for yourself?

I try to have a budget but it still needs work. With 2 kids things seem to pop up that I haven't always budgeted for. I think everyone should take a course on budgeting. This should be taught in the public schools. If everyone had to learn how to budget maybe we all wouldn't be in such a financial mess. This is something I am definitely working on as we are having financial problems due to the medical needs of our children. Any good advice on my budget?

I really do not have a budget for myself. I really should, I really know I should. I don't make a lot as it is and I know I end up spending a lot more than I bring in. I think sometimes we just have to make a really nice, conscious effort to make a plan and decide to stick with it. I think we need to allow for so much spending for ourselves and other things but realize that sometimes we need to cut spending on other items to make up for those emergencies that tend to pop up.

I need to start planning better for emergencies too. I wish I made more money so that every unexpected thing would not break the bank. Maybe this year I can make more as I am working more.

I'm not good in this aspect. I do always run out of budget. I have an SSS pension but I always loaned it. The next time. however when I get my expected commission I'll try to have a budget for myself. All I know is a budget for the whole family. Medical needs break our budget as we don't know when does it arises. I admire others for having budget for everything, understandably because they have good budget resulting from good finances.

We have an awful lot of medical bills because of our 2 children have a disease which requires doctor visits, lab work, etc. We also will have upcoming dental work which will break the budget too. I really need to work on this better so that it doesn't break the bank.

We budget, it is really the only way we can live, with 3 kids, a mortgage and just regular bills along with a few other payments we have to make a month there really isn't a choice. LOL! We have always budgeted and I think always well as when you get into a habit I think you tend to stick with them. I have no advice as you didn't state where the money goes really.

I have become really good with budgeting money. My fiance lets me deal with all the finances because of it. We have three children and yes I know things pop up and the most horrible of times. But here is the deal we have a little under four hundred dollars a week and when rent is six hundred and forty-five dollars you really have to be a penny pincher. I always know what day my bills are do so for each week I sit down and see what is do and I pay what is do and get diapers and such. Then the last three weeks of the month I really penny pinch so that I always have two hundred dollars left to put up for rent. I only buy what is absolutely necessary. You cannot go out to eat. Definitely stick to home cooked meals. Believe me you will always feel broke but in the end you are surviving. When you buy what you need each week and put up the rest you always have money ready for when it is time to pay the bills. I am not sure how your income is or what bills you have but if you sit down and figure it out. Like how much you have coming in and then subtracting how much goes out you will now if you are making enough money to survive and well what you have left and divide that up between 4 weeks and that is what you have to spend on necessities, IE, toilet paper and diapers, etc.

You sound like you have it all together and are doing great. Good for you!!! Keep up the good work! Toilet paper!!! Now that is another story in our house. My two children have a disease where they have almost constant diarreha so we actually spend quite a bit a month on toilet paper. Too bad we can't claim that as a medical expense with insurance!!! Thanks for the good advice :)!

I have tried many times to set a budget but it never seems to work for me. One of my really good friends though is really good at it and has been trying to help me out with teaching me some good ideas that I could actually follow. I really want to be able to find away that it will work for me so that I can spend my money more wisely and maybe try and save some so in case something happens I have a little money put up so that I can get my kids what they need.

I hear you! I am trying really hard so that we can have some money again. It is so tiring to be in debt. My goal for 2009 is to at least get some of the bills paid off. And to be able to take a 2 day trip so that I can relax a little. Hopefully will be able to get that in the budget :)!!!!

i budget myself. but im only 19 and its just because im trying to save to travel. luckily for me i was taught to budget in school. i dont know if its just an australian thing or just where i live but in my careers class when i was about 15 we had an excerise where we randomly drew out jobs (i was lucky and scored a doctor) we then were given a list of things to put money towards including everythin from grocery and bills to gas and transport. it went for 3 weeks i think and we did it at the start of every class then we seen how well we would turn out in the end. it was a really really helpful excercise and i think more schools should consider. anyway thats my story sorry i dont actually have any advice for u on how to budget lol

That is very awesome. My son did have a short course in economics where he had to budget around the job that he thought he would have one day. I definitely think that this is something everyone should learn. Hope you can save enough to travel :)!

Every year I prepared a personal budget. However, I learned that I always need to be flexible and times change. Not every item on my budget work when the situation arises. Still, having a budget is like having an objective to work towards. Many of us have financial challenges. A budget is a way of disciplining ourselves. I certainly await the day when I will be financiallly free.

Budgets are great to have in use, but like you said things come up... and always when you least expect it or at the worst time... I really cant give advice to but to wish you luck and hope that things will find a way to work out for you soon. I know this may sound sad, but I would do great with a budge, for I always have...but with the last year hubbys work has really slowed down alot due to our economy and well to be truthful, I have to work our way back up to a budget.... which is how I found this site for one thing...LOL I was looking for ways to bring in extra money and now I am here and trying out a few others as well. So once I start bringing in a little extra then i can get back to a budget.
