Kittynapping in the neighborhood

Recently I had a kitten for my daughter because she really wanted one to play with. As the story here goes; the neighbor next door had a cat cage and was collecting strays to dump off on a country road (which is illegal in my area). Our kitty was playing in their yard and was kittynapped. When we faced the neighbors about our missing cat they denied ever catching a cute fuzzy calico kitten. Strange that there are no animals around that would carry off a kitten unless it is by human hands and other cats have disappeared as well. I don't think of it as nice to steal a child's pet then lie about it bluntly. However there was a report about a dead kitten on the road where this person had dumped the stray cats. Indeed it was our kitten. Will I ever get another kitten for my daughter again? Probably, when there are no kittynappers in the neighborhood.

How sad! I am still thinking about getting a cat but I also think that animal cruelty in this world has gotten far out of hand lately. Antifreeze has been used around here too in my neighborhood. I'm somewhat glad that my daughters cat wasn't poisoned. To see a cat poisoned is worse than having them kittynapped.

That's just awful. What about the possibility of keeping the next one indoors? In addition to keeping it away from kittynappers, it will be protected from predators, cars, diseases, etc. and will most likely live a lot longer.

It wasn't just awful, it was heartbreaking! The advice you give sounds excellent about keeping the cat indoors. Having a cat that will live longer is better than having a cat that will fall into danger. Thanks!!!

I'm sorry to hear about your kitten - your daughter probably is heartbroken. I really don't understand how anyone could do something this cruel to children and kittens as i'm sure they wouldn't have treated it as well as your daughter would have.
