Has anybody ever moved to a new country and felt lost? I moved to Holland about 2 months and I feel lost. I am with my boyfriend because he accepted a job here. Of course he is off working and I am left home. I feel like I have no purpose at the moment because my work permit hasn't come thru yet! Other say I should enjoy while it lasts but its lasting too long for me. Thoughts?

Wow snizzles, that is a big task, having relocated to another country. A big step. It is good that you have your boyfriend with you. I can understand why you feel lost. With your boyfriend at work and you left alone. Hopefully your work permit will come through soon and you will have your own job to go to as well. I have never relocated to another country permanently but I have relocated temporarily. Same as you, friend gone to their job and I was left alone. I would take long bubble baths, go for walks, watch movies, eat, ride mountain bike and sleep. One morning I rode the bike and picked oranges that grew just random along the road. Very sweet, juicy and delicious. In thinking how you could pass time, what about doing some volunteer work? There is no exchange of money and that way at least you could be mingling with people of like mind, be interacting with the local community and not feel so lost. Well, I know what you mean about "lasting too long" as a good thing can get old fast. Try and relax, reflect and enjoy your new surroundings. Get out for a walk. Go to the local market for a few vegetables for dinner. Go to the library. Turn on some music and dance, work out, sing. There are some things we can find to do to entertain ourselves, should the need arise. Exercising, even is just a brisk walk is a really good way to break monotony, get some exercise and maybe meet some local people. Your permit will arrive in no time. Maybe scope out some employment opportunities while you are waiting. It is never a bad idea to keep up on what's going on in that department in the area that you would like to work.Keep writing at MyLot is another great way to pass time. Wishing you much luck and prosperity. Cheers.

Hello! I really understand how you feel, I have been moving to different countries about every 5 years when I was a kid... It would definitely need a little time and patience for you to make yourself at home there.. What I would suggest in your case is this: Consider you are just a tourist there, go out and shop, visit sights while your boyfriend is at work and have fun doing things that you like in general... After a couple of weeks, you will start liking the place and that will make your stay more pleasant.
