I didn't know about Coptic Church until I read 1hopefulman's response. However, based on that - then wouldn't that mean that it is NOT the oldest Church since it only branched out from something else. Isn't Judaism the oldest Church since they've been established even before Christ was born - and the Coptic Church you say only came around during the lifetime of St. Mark?
:P I'm Catholic by the way.

Did St. Mark himself Establish it? I don't think that was written in the Bible. Maybe his followers did, but not St. Mark himself.
Theologians also say that it were not the Evangelists themselves who wrote the Gospels but their followers a couple of centuries after their deaths.

Through theological investigation, the Church dated the Gospels back to a couple of centuries after the deaths of the evangelists. And in addition to that, they also found differing accounts of certain events that transpired - which could only be explained that the disciples (as followers, but not the Apostles themselves) wrote the accounts. It was concluded that the evangelists spread the Gospels through oral tradition and they gained followers - and among those followers wrote the Gospels for fear of losing information through oral tradition alone.

I'm happy that you now know about the Coptic church.
But what i was saying is that, it is one of the oldest church (of course the church of Jerusalem is the first!!!)but the church had been established after Christ ascension into the heavens, by the apostles. There is no church before Christ!!!!
And also what i was saying is that it is now the only church (by the prove of the scientists) which hadn't change any thing from its rituals and hymns.
And the Coptic church didn't branch from anything, it has been established by St.Mark the Evangelist, around the year 60A.D.

The Coptic Church is a "Mystery" based Christianity System. Meaning they believe there is hidden or secret knowledge much like the Gnostic's.
