http://www.wyff4.com/news/18551231/detail.html#- This place is about an hour drive from my house. I feel so sorry for these little guys. I fear they will start putting them to sleep if something doesn't give. I know a lot of you have helped transport pets to people actually wanting them. If anybody is interested, I'll be willing to pick up your baby & get the ball rolling. OK, any of you people willing to save the life of a poor little puppy who desperately needs a home???

It's really heart wrenching as this is such a growing problem with ALL shelters...I"m almost betting a lot of these cute puppies had been Christmas presents and then the owners couldn't keep them...have you though about getting in contact with Best Friends?....They're are out in Utah but they are usually phenomenal in taking in a lot of pets when no one else will--they've taken tons of dogs/puppies from puppy mills all over the country. Since you are close by to this place maybe you could call the shelter with this suggestion about getting in touch with Best Friends Here's there full contact page which has a phone number as well...If you want would you want me to at least email them and send them the link about the shelter??? http://www.bestfriends.org/aboutus/staffdepartments/index.cfm {Warning: This is NOT a referral link but a link to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary}

I am still looking but had to show you how wonderful people can be!!! This story made me cry!!! http://www.andersonindependentmail.com/news/2009/jan/24/pilots-locals-provide-anderson-county-animal-shelt/ Even with the help of food & blankets, they still have 400-500 animal to adopt out. I'll be back shortly pye!!!

Found it. Here's their website... http://www.andersoncountyanimalshelter.com/ They've taken in as many puppies in the month of January as they normally take in all year. Plus a few dogs turned in are pregnant so more puppies on the way. Yes, pye, if you have a contact at Best Friends, I'm sure they would appreciate any help they can get. One thing I like about this shelter is they do their damnedest to not put an animal down, but they are getting desperate & if it continues like this, they're afraid they might have to start putting some down in order to not abuse them. Tears my heart out to hear that!!!

If I could I would, although I think that whoever takes one or 185 on needs to do it for the right reasons and not just a knee jerk reaction. Good on you LadyM for highlighting this cause.

Understand...I don't want anyone who doesn't truly have a place in their heart for one of these babies!!! If it's not a myLot member, maybe one of their neighbors will have the perfect place for them. This shelter has received a whole year's worth of pets just since the first day of this year. All I know is, if people don't know about it, NOBODY will be trying to do anything about it. I've taken 3 this year not counting the one I already had & I'm not planning to start my own shelter. I am thinking of calling on Monday to become a foster Mom. Only problem I have there is once I bring them home, I won't want to let them go!!!

Those little labs are certainly cute puppies, I already have old coots (12 1/2 yrs and 10 yrs) and it would not be fair to them to bring in a young pooch plus I can not afford another dog, actually we can't afford the ones we have but refuse to give them up. I work about 5 hours OT every week just to cover their food and medical bills but they belong to us and will always be ours.

I think it is a good thing you are trying to do. I have my two dogs and two cats I think that is enough pets for my husband and I.

I'm sure if you took all 185, they would be willing to arrange to have them shipped. Once you've got 185, 2 more aren't going to even be noticed!!!

I understand. A lot of places are like that now. pyewacket has worked her tail off this weekend getting the word out to the appropriate rescue organizations. I have a ton of hope for the responses to her hard work!!!

Yiks. Poor puppies. I thought we had it bad here. I frequently foster puppies so that they don't get sick in the local pound.

I've been considering fostering one or more of these little guys. Only problem is I'll fall in love with them & not want to give them up when the time comes!!! That's how I ended up with my little girl. Took her in for the weekend & both me & my male fell in love with her & I just couldn't let her go back!!!

HI LadyMarissa: That just breaks my heart to hear of this; I wish I had extra money to lend a helping hand with food, and or adopt one of them; I can't do either; I struggle to take care of my three cats and two dogs; Makes me wonder though how much of this is going on all over the world now? Probably more than I would like to know; Its so sad, so very sad; I hope they all find homes but I doubt that happens; Truly heart breaking;

If you already have 5 fur babies, you don't need another!!! Maybe you have a friend who would love to have one!!!
