I won the poetry slam and $50. I know it wasn't a real official, urban. inner-city slam. I would never win one of those, I'm not even sure if the reason I didn't win here isn't because they are proud of me for "overcoming" my disability or some ridiculous thing. My friends call that "stinking thinking" and it's not my job to combat other people's ableism, but refusing to accept money or honors. Who does that help? What does prove? I'm good at what I do. I know that and over people's prejudices cause them to give extra money or praise (as a method of feeling less "guilty" sobeit. Besides, I really know the judges are good people. They're fond of me, but I don't they would've disrespected me that way. Maybe the universe was just on my side today. Could happen, right?

"Maybe the universe was just on my side today. Could happen, right?" Actually, I don't believe in coincidence... you won because you're deserve it. You won because there's a reason behind it. Do not let other people's criticisms eat up your confidence. You know yourself more than anybody else. SO be proud of it but jsut remember to keep your feet flat on the ground still, for a man who doesn't know how to look back from where he came from won't be going anywhere else. CONGRATULATIONS!

congratulations on your win. i think that you should just give the judges the benefit of the doubt. i think that if we assume negativity in people, thats the energy that will be given to us. if you honestly feel as though you are good and that you reached people with your poetry, than you should hold onto that glory for all its worth. i also think unless one of those judges told you something personally, you should believe that your win is yours and that you earned it. again, congratulations.

Congratulations on your victory! You must be a very good writer/composer to have won the contest. I'm happy for you. I love poetry that I have so many poems written my whole life but I have not tried to join in contests yet. I hope I can someday.

Hi there, Cripfemme, Congratulations on your win and on your $50.00. I'm not sure if you're aware or five told you this before, but I am also in a wheelchair and have Cerebral Palsy. Your right thinking that they gave you the win because because you are disabled, and not on the merits of your writing is "stinking thinking" as you say. I am all for activism, and standing on principles but, kicking a gift horse in the mouth is not exactly the smartest thing to do either. Pick your battles, I'd take the money too. Again, congrats! And happy Mylotting!
