i have a acer travelmate 2480 laptop, and it has a cd rw/dvd combo drive. it can read and write, cd, but it can only read dvds.. i want to burn dvds, but i do not know how to. Can i change the internal drive of my laptop? or i am only left to the possibility of using an external dvd drive? has anyone changed this internal drive? is it possible?

It might be possible. What you can do is, bring your laptop to an Acer shop and then have them take a look at it. They'll tell you if you can upgrade it or not. If you can't, then the best thing to do is, like what the guy above said, buy an external burner.

Yes it is possible go to the acer service center and you can change. For price details just send a mail to the acer helpcenter and you can get the full information.

Hi cuttyrish! I really am not sure if you can change or add anything on the internal drive of a laptop. I have a laptop although it is not what I am using at the moment but with my laptop, my husband has put an external drive so we can use it to burn dvd before. I am not just sure of the internal drive thing, have to ask him when he comes home later. Sorry not bit much of a help here. Take care and have a great day! lovelots..faith

Basically still the same as what the first couple of guys said and adding to those: I haven't had my internal driver changed in my laptop. I actually avoid having to go to the service center - which means I try my best to care for it as much as I could. I just don't like parting from it because I need it all the time. However, technically speaking it SHOULD be possible to have your CD burner changed for DVD burner since most of other internal drives are upgradable in a laptop. But it would be best if you go to the service center and not in any ordinary technical support places. Thanks for the response on my discussion! And it's about texter/caller - just in case you were wondering like the last time :)

Ya it is possible to upgrade you cd/dvd drive any time. But you have to get the original one there are many duplicate drivers for laptops coming up in the market today... Try to consult your acer dealer ,and try to get it fixed by some professionals. My personal advice is dont upgrade it now, as bluray comes into the picture you will need to upgrade it again for bluray driver. So if you case is not so serious ,be patient for some time until br arrives....
