i'm always interested and fascinated to all superstitions in various countries. or the ones i know. my country is a multi-racial country and there's so many types of superstitions . i'll just go with the flow if i were to be in front of folks because normally the young generation don't really believe it. well sometimes i still do! :) my favourite one would be the itchy-right-palm superstition. haha! it means you'll be receiving money soon. and if the left palm is itchy means that you'd be giving or donating money to others. well what about you guys? which one is your favourite one? or is there other weird superstitions that you know? if you do, please do share it and tell about it! thanx and happy posting everyone!

Hi Soundfreak22, I am not really that superstitious and the one where they say it is unlucky to walk under a ladder to me is logical and someone could drop something on you from above. I do however for some strange reason salute and say hi to a single magpie if I see one and if I spill salt through some over my shoulder to stop bad luck so I guess I am a bit superstitious. I know here in the UK it is lucky for a black cat to run in front of you but int the USA it is considered unlucky. Huggles. Ellie :D

hye ellie333! yeah, it's all about logic. there's a few i that i know too that we can correlate to logic. the folks here said that single girls cannot sing while cooking in the kitchen. if not, they can't marry. haha! actually logically, if you're busy singing you wouldn't get your cooking done fast. anyways, i didn't know about there's difference in the UKs and USA about the black cat. very interesting though. and no wonder rachel ray throws some salt over her shoulders!

I disagree with the singing when you're cooking slowing you down. Some of the fastest cooks I've worked with sing while they work. I'm talking about in restaurants, not in the home. A happy cook is a good cook.

About the ichy palms I have always heard if the right one does it means you are going to meet someone that you've never seen or met before. If it's the left one itching this means you'll be recieveing soon some money. Also if the bottom of your feet itch(minus the occational foot problems lol) it means you'll walk on new ground a place you have not been. There are many things said here. This is not my favorites I just go by them. I don't know what my favorites are.

That itchy palm one seems to be a popular one in both Britain and the U.S.A. I think maybe we want it to come true if it's the right one that itches. I was always told in respect of this saying that Right is to Receive, Left is to Leave, and that's how I've always remembered which is which. There are many superstitions I guess, all over the world, and being a pagan, there are even more, really ancient ones, but I'm not really a superstitious person, other than wanting to believe I have money coming when my right palm itches, and that if I send out something harmful, it will return to me three times as bad. Wishful thinking on the first one and perhaps moral reasons on the second. Brightest Blessings.

genarally in our india if a single eye lid gives some movement, it is an indication that some body is going to arrive in our house. Also if anybody is making sound out of the door -latch, it is also an indication of some unwanted person to arrive. so Be aware!

I do not know about the other countries. But the superstitions that I will share would be just for the girls. One of the superstitions here in our country is that when you rubbed your first menstruation on your face, you'll avoid having pimples. In addition, jumping on the third step of the ladder in your first day of menstruation makes your menstruation last for only three days. Lol. I did not do any of these so I cannot tell whether these superstitions are true or not. And rubbing my menstruation unto my face is very disgusting!!!

my mum did this actually! and amazingly, she haven't had a pimple. not that i know of. it sounds gross but maybe it works out for some people.

Hi! Here in my country, we're teeming with superstitions. I'm 7 months pregnant and my mother keeps telling me that my stomach itches because my baby has very thick hair. But as my husband who is more on the side of scientific reasons, tells me that my stomach itches due to the stretching of skin. I do have a favorite one, though. My youngest sister was living with her in-laws when she gave birth to her daughter. Now, her husband's parents, especially his mother and grandmother are downright very superstitious. They believe that the fastest way to make sure that her hips will go back to their original size was to wrap her in thick blankets and they will alternately kick her hips from either side!!!

wow good one there jcj_111776. over here the husband of the pregnant women cannot grind any knives especially choppers. i'm not quite sure what's the logic to it but most people here avoid doing that. they say that the baby's head would look like a chopper or something like that. anyways, have a nice day!

They said that in getting married, the elest sibling must do it first. Because he or she will find it hard or will no longer get married if the younger once did it first. Funny but it is always been followed in our family.
• Malaysia

ahhh yes. this one i know too. and if the younger siblings were to marry first they have to give something to the eldest too. normally they give a gold ring as a present. thanx for stopping by izathewzia!

We have many superstitions here. I've heard if you're remodeling a building that you shouldn't cut a window out to make a door. If you do someone connected to that family or group will die. I don't see any logic there and laugh at it. Also if a bird flies in your house someone will die. Well, yes they will eventually. We all die when it's our time. I'm not really superstitious, but I knock wood just come as a reflex to keep from jinxing yourself when you're talking about good fortune.

I get annoyed every time my mom ask me not to pull out her gray hair because she'll have more of them. What? Shouldn't they become lesser when pulled out? Are they gremlins?
• Malaysia
26 Jan 09
hahaha! gremlins. well nympha687 i think it's true and my cousin said it before. and she has this two strands of gray hair right in the middle of her head. when she pulled it out it doubled to four. now she just cuts it and it doesn't grow more anymore. thankx for responding nympha687 and have a nice day!

also.. when you have monthly period (menstruation) don't take a bath.. you might be 'insane'..
• Malaysia
27 Jan 09
i think don't take a bath means try to avoid wetting your hair. there is a logic to it somehow. i heard if you do you'll have blood clots and that's not good. thanx for sharing anyway prometheuspunch!

here in our place.. if you're pregnant, don't look at ugly faces, scary things, etc.. your baby's physical appearance might be like that. Or the food that you crave most.. for example, if you love eating crabs when you are pregnant, your baby might have 4-8 arms.
• Malaysia
27 Jan 09
owh! owh! it's true though. when you're pregnant look at beautiful or handsome ones, your baby would come out pretty or handsome. but in my place here, you're not suppose to eat crab otherwise your child would use only their thumbs and forefingers to do things, like the crab!

My grandmother used to see that seeing a red cardinal from your window meant good luck. My boyfriend and I saw one from his window when we first started dating, and so far, all has been well.

there's also a belief that if you're going to get married, do not wear your wedding gown before your wedding day, because something bad might happen and the wedding will be cancelled.
