Awhile ago a colleague at work, someone I rarely see at work, showed up and she looked as though she might be pregnant. I hadn't heard if she was, so I didn't know for sure. What do you do? If she's pregnant, she'd feel I'm rude for not noticing and congratulating her. If she's not pregnant though, and I say, "Wow! Are you pregnant!?" .. and she's not.. well .. I've done that before. Dig big hole and jump in. How do you recover? ME: "Oh.. well I thought you were pregnant." HER: "No, I'm just fat. Thanks a lot, jerk." This ever happen to you?

When I was pregnant I really didn't show a whole lot so people always seemed on eggshells on whether to say something about it or not. I had a lot of fun screwing with people like that. Only I would have hated to be on the receiving end and not knowing for sure what was going on. Just strike up a conversation with her and see if you can draw it out. Make up a friend who is expecting and see what her reaction is.

This did happen to me when a colleague donkey years ago was pregnant. It was a very painful situation but we all just looked the other way so to speak as we were all very embarrassed. She did go on sick leave and a doctor's certificate was produced. she was off for six weeks and when she came back no mention was made of the baby at all. she did look slimmer though. In my opinion do not mention it to her. Keep silent about it unless she mentions it or you hear someone congratulating her about it. Blessings
