hi analyn! i am employed by a private firm. i just want to clarify what do you mean by extending time like you? for all i know, most government employees in our country go home as early as 4:30 pm. just an hour later than the close of banking hours. us employees who work for private companies are overworked and underpaid, yet we are willing to extend working hours just to meet perennial report deadlines... mostly imposed by the government. we pay our taxes and dues, religiously, yet we are being put on queue in each government establishment that we happen to visit. sometimes, they even tell us to come back on another day... whenever we need to obtain a certain certificate. sometimes, we are being snarled at. but then let me qualify... "fuera de los buenos".

thanks for clarifying my dear. i personally as a person has a responsibility to uphold the laws of the republic, much as i expect the government to look into my welfare as a law-abiding citizen. "poverty" is all over the world, aggravated by our nature as humans to need to amass wealth for our "bright future". If we just learn to be content with what we have, poverty would not be a real big issue. our country is rich in natural resources... and we are not paying too much attention, on the contrary, we are partly to be blamed on its exploitation. the government needs to focus on public service, but what is happening nowadays is that dirty politics have invaded not only the government but the private world as well. the tenure of workers who were appointed by the losing political candidates became co-terminus... hence there's no continuity of employment and service... forcing the new head to choose people of his own and start the process all over again. i can not save the world alone... though i know reform is needed. all i can do is reflect on my own weaknesses and will try to devise remedies to help me improve my attitude towards my family, my job, and my government. good luck to both of us. i hope we could make a difference. :)
