Talk about the last minute!

My hubby got up early to take his time getting to work in the bad weather. He showered, dressed. He took care of the dog. He was on his way out the door to head to work, and the phone rings. His boss canceled work. With the reports on the news last night, and yesterday afternoon, would you be a little annoyed at the 6:30 am phone call? Or would you just be glad to get the call before getting in the car?

Wouldn't be annoyed really, as I wouldn't have no other plans if I were getting in the car to go to work. I would be glad that I got the call before I drove off to work, and wasted alot of gas.

Well I would be upset that I had to get up early for nothing but would be relieved that I did have the day off due to the bad weather. Nice to know that some employers do care about the welfare and safety of their employees. At least you know your hubby is safe for the day!

When I was working in the landscape industry it was required that if it was raining the employees had to cal in be 6 am to find out if they were supposed to come to work. If they did not call then it usually meant they just wasted their gas and would be sent home. I think it was good that your husband's boss had the cutousy to call. It was a good thing he got the call before leaving.

well that is better than my boss. they live on a road that is one of the first to be plowed when it is snowing and even though the schools are cancelled, they dont cancel work, so you have to make your way to work only to have it closed early and then you have to go home. what a pain!

I would certainly be glad to get the call before leaving. My kids school just started an automated system to get the word out about stuff like this. The phone rang at 6am this morning. I was still in bed! Anyway, I didn't have to sit and watch the news to find out about it.

Sometimes they just want to wait until last minute to see how the roads look. I know with the schools around here they usually wait until one of the busses has tried to drive before they decide it's too risky.
Personally, I might be a bit upset that I was already up and dressed (sleeping in would have been great) but I'd be happy I didn't have to drive all the way in before finding out.

I would be glad I got the call before getting in to the car. He was lucky he didn't have to be out in it. and You got to be with him all day..So did he have a fixer up list so you could put him to work on things around the house?

It does seem a little last minute but you should be glad that your husbands boss was considerate enough to cancel work today and that your husband does not have a job that requires him to go out whatever the weather like doctors or nurses or personal care assistants. I'm disabled so as much as I would like to let people stay home in this crazy weather I can't do that because I still need help. Although he could have been a little more timely your husband is lucky he did not have to drive in this insane weather that's killed 19 people.

I think I'd be happy to have work cancelled at all! LOL I've never had that happen in all my working life. School cancellations for the kids, sure, on occasion. But even if they didn't have to go out, I did. I think it's good that your husband's boss called - he might not have wanted to call too early and disturb the family or are there multiple employees to call and that might just be the time he got to your husband's name on the list? In any case, I would appreciate getting call before getting in the car for sure :)

I wouldn't be annoyed by that phone call at all. In fact, I'd be rather happy that I got that phone call before I got into the car and started to drive to work only to be halfway to work when I find out that work is actually closed for the day. That would annoy me because I would have had to risk my life when I could have been safe and stayed at home.

I would be annoyed that it took them till 6:30 to call me, but glad that the call came before I actually made it out the door and into that nasty weather. My son's school has been cancelled the last 2 days. The call normally comes the night before, but there have been few times when it comes at 6 am.

I would have felt the same annoyed that it took them that long, but glad that they called before I got into the car. It would be nice to get the call before showering and getting ready for work. But maybe the higher ups didn't make the decision until they saw what it actually was going to be like.

I think I would be a little annoyed if I was just leaving for work, and my jobs called me to tell they were closing early for some reason. Although, if they were to catch me before I left, I'd lke that even better than if they'd called me just as I got into town. I live 20-30 minutes away from my job, and I'd really hate it if I got all the way into town, and they told me to go on home. That's at least a gallon of gas right there.

No, I would be happy and just crawl back into bed. Being a joker, of course, I would try to do this without my wife knowing. Then, when she finally wakes up, I'd bolt upright and race around the house getting ready to go. All the while, I'd complain that she let me sleep in too long and that I was going to get fired. Then, just before leaving, I'd turn to her with a smile and say, "Oh, yea, the called to cancel work today, hon."

Personally if it was me, I would rather get the call before I head off to work especially if the roads are not the best than suffer the drive to work to get there and work has been cancelled. So sounds like your day was saved, and hope you enjoyed your day with your husband home as well.

It never happened to me but yes if it did happen it would be a pleasent surprise, we usually learn after reaching office that no work today. So it will be a welcome change to have them call and tell us beforehand anytiem they like but before we got out of the house. what a dream that is-impossible I guess in my country at least.

Perhaps his boss was getting ready around the house like your husband. Got in his car, came back inside and decided to call workers. I would certainly be glad got the call!

I think he should be glad the work was off in the first place.
In that kind of weather you'd be lucky to stay at home and relax.
I wish I could do that sometimes.

I would be glad to get the call before getting into the car. I would be so thankful that the call came in before I got on the dangerous highways. I guess they waited until almost the last minute to listen to the weather report to get an idea as to how bad it was going to be.
We had bad weather today too, but it did not turn out as bad as predicted, it only snowed about two inches, then there was a little sleet, now it is raining.
Glad your husband got a day off of work, he probably has to use a vacation day though, huh?

Shew. For me I'm glad if I get off work 5 minutes early. I wouldn't have been mad at all if I got a phone call as I was leaving telling me to stay home. I would have hung up the phone, let out a squeal of glee and plopped down on the couch to watch tv!
