for entertainment? to learn things? i have to admit that i do it for both. i like the 'escapism' that some books can give you and i am also a huge history fanatic and i love to read about certain events in history. currently i am reading 2 books. one is canadian fiction, 'barameter rising' by hugh mclennen (its about the explosion in halifax in 1916) and a non fiction book on the civil war

I agree with you"escapism" is the right word for the book addicts like me. I also love books which take me places that I would never otherwise get a chance to see and visit. Pus I never cease to admire the writer's ability to create a world with words. weave a story and take the imgination for a wild ride. Its a marvel to read a book and must be marvellous to be able to write so well.

I dont know why you choose this topic as why do you read books ? Mostly student read books just to pass the exam where as those who graduate from school or college they read the books for entertainment purpose. And if some one need any information in their life then they start to read books to learn what they dont know about.........

I read both for entertainment and for learning new thngs. Reading, I believe, is a sort of mental exercise and it gives a flip and boost to our mind. No other activity e.g. watching TV give so much enjoyment and satisfaction to me as 'reading'. If I am waiting somewhere, I try to keep a book/magzine handy so that I could utilize my precious time. I love to read all types of books/novels/magzines.

I read because I have to, not because it is assigned but because I need to read like I need to breath. I like just about everything although lately I have been reading young adult fiction.

All through my teenage years I read to escape. Actually I think that is why I read so much as a child. I would read constantly, even getting into my closet at night with a flashlight when I was supposed to be in bed. Now I read because I'm interested in something. I don't read as much fiction, and I just love learning about things I've wondered about, and then grown to understand through a book.

I read for escapism, entertainment, and to satisfy my curiosities, sometimes. Right now, I'm reading a nonfiction book by Jon Krakauer called, "Into Thin Air." It's about his climb of Mt. Everest (I think that's the mountain he was climbing). And I must say, it's a pretty incredible book.

I read for both reasons, though, I do tend to read for entertainmet more than to learn things. I guess when I was still in college I did more reading to learn and less for entertainment (I didn't really have much time to read for fun because of all the reading, research and homework I had to do for my classes). I tend to read a lot of mystery/suspense novels the most. They are a nice way to distract me from the 'real world' for a while.

I read primarily for entertainment purposes, but hey if i happen to learn something while i am at it, that just an added bonus. I enjoy the escapism as well and is the reason i read a lot of fantasy/paranormal books. Something you know is not real but its just fun to imagine for a little while that they are.

I hardly read non-fiction for entertainment, as anything I have to read to learn was done during school/college time, and at work. I enjoy reading fiction, usually crime, murder mysteries and horror stories. It's more for relaxation and entertainment, as I tend to lose myself in the books and forget about the issues/problems at work.

I read to learn things, for entertainment as well and also to escape from the things that bothers me...like when I read a good book, its as if I don't have worries or problems, I used my imagination to capture a beautiful scene as described by the author, I'm usually moved by the story in every book that I read...I laugh, cry, be amazed, get thrilled and sad sometimes, it's like watching movies. Sometimes I read also to kill the time, when I'm bored at work, It's really a way not to ruin the day. (^_^)

I read because I like to read. I sometimes do it for learning purposes and sometimes I do it for fun and relaxation. But I always love to read. I also like to write.

I do both. I love to read fiction, but I also love to learn more about subjects that interest me. I also sometimes have the benefit of learning things while reading for pleasure. For instance, I am currently reading a Grisham book that takes place in Italy, and there is a lot of Italian in it, so I am learning some Italian words. Also, whenever I am reading and I come across a word I don't know, I look it up, so I am always expanding my vocabulary.

Though I don't consider myself a book worm (in fact I'm the college soccer captain!) but currently I'm reading 7 books including two novels, four medical text books and one local book. So I like to read for fun but mostly for knowledge.

I read for lots of things, but probably for entertainment the most. I love to read, it is just my pastime. Sometimes I get so caught up in reading I don't know what time it is. I like fiction and nonfiction both are great.
