Has anyone changed to the new fluorescent light bulbs? I changed all the bulbs in my house and my electric bill has come down drastically. Has anyone had this same experience? I am saving about $60 dollars monthly since I have changed the bulbs.

We've switched pretty much every bulb in our house to the CFL bulbs and I'm not sure how much of a difference that is has made but from what I can tell we have seen a bit of a difference on our bill. We have a drastically high electric bill all the time and I'm really trying to figure out ways to cut it down but it's been hard getting people to jump on the boat with keeping unused things unplugged and what not.

Hi there highflyingxangel, Well, I do understand when you say that it is hard getting others to turn off things if they are not in use. I am always fussing, "turn the light off! No one is in that room!" In my house there are only two of us so it is easier for me. Once we leave in the morning, I unplug almost everything. People don't realize that as long as it is digital, you pay whether it is off or on. Cable box, microwave...I hope that you find a way to cut your costs. We pay for nothing as long as it is plugged in and we are not using it. Sad huh? Also, your electric provider should have info on ways to cut down on their website. Good luck! Thanks for responding...take care.

Hi there howard96h, how are you doing? Thank you for the "welcome back", I have been gone a long time. Too much time missing too many people, some more than others. I am glad to hear that you have changed your bulbs and are saving money. Again, I am glad to be back, good hearing from you, don't be a stranger and take care of yourself...

I switched a few months ago but I haven't seen that much of a difference. I have however, noticed that I haven't had to change the bulbs all the time like I used to. I am sure that my electric bill did go down some but nothing as high as yours. I am certainly saving money on how often I need to buy bulbs though. I will continue to use them.

Hi sunnypub, I haven't had to change mine either. My sister told me something I did not realize, under normal use, they can last up to seven years. Yipeeee! So, along with that and the lower bill, we are saving money and the environment! Thanks for responding...take care now!

Yes most of them are FLB! We love them and supposedly they are lowering the electric bill. I try to unplug items that are not being in use because they still can use electricity. It helps on the bill, you know? Cheers! Pablo

Welcome back!!! I have not changed my bulbs yet because I haven't been able to get out to get any and money is in short supply. My husband is still in the hospital but when I talked to him I told him about your post and he said definitely it would make a big difference. Our news last week said it has been proven that over time fluorescent lighting is supposed to not be good for you but my husband said you'd have to be exposed to the lights all the time.

Hi there Grandmaof2, how are you doing? Thank you for the "welcome back too!" It is hard to buy these bulbs if you are short on cash. As I said before, I only got mine by purchasing them when they were on sale. Little by little. I hope that your hubby is doing better, tell him hello from us. I did not know that the lights are not supposed to be good for us, I am going to research that. Thanks for telling me. Take care of you and yours, hope to hear from you soon...

Hi tsgirl, it's great to see you here! We did change most of our bulbs to the flourescent ones and there is a big difference. We had to buy them a little at a time when they went on sale, but it sure was worth it.

I have those bulbs but I havent really noticed a big change in my power bill. I guess it would have to be alot of differnce for me to notice it. My electric bill was very high this last time but I am not blaming it on the light bulbs. I think power usage over the holidays probably had soemthing to do with it.

Yes snowy22315, the holidays do put a toll on our power bills. But now that the holidays are over, I hope that you will start to see a significant difference in your bill. My bill went down gradually, not all at once. But within a few billing cycles, I was a very happy camper. Take care and thanks for the response.

Wow, that's a lot. I'm working on changing them over as they blow out. My bedroom one just went out today and I don't have a new CF one to put in so I dragged a table lamp into the room that has one in it. I'm wondering how much longer my closet light bulbs will last. They're just regular bulbs but I moved in her 14 years ago and have never changed them. They aren't on that long when they're on, but 14 years is a long time for a light bulb.

Same here KatieDidit, (love the name). My closet in the hall has had the same bulb for 15 years that I am here, we don't use it often but that is a LONG time. I changed mine over pretty cheaply. Every time I saw a sale at Home Depot, I went and bought more bulbs. Thanks for the response. Take care...
