There are different types of autism and it is very important to go at their pace, do not try to force teaching upon them. Most do like to mimmick you so showing inadvertenly is very successful. Many also like music, so to make a disc with learning material turned into a song is also helpful. Lots of praise without touching them is very good as well. If they need a hug they will come and hug you. I do wish you much success in your project. Just remember each child is different no matter if they have the same disability, they do not have the same personality. Hands on things work wonders with autistic children as well

hi riah! what i can suggest is to ask people who have autistic children. i know someone who has an autistic child, but i learned that it has several forms. the one that my friend has is asperger or something, something about behavioral form of autism. so it really depends on what you need. what i know is, with my friends' family, they try to let their child mingle with other kids and other people. they try to make him establish relationships. they sent him to a mainstream school so that the child will not be singled out if he goes to a special school and will be exposed to other special children. they also try to get him to attend sunday school classes and children's choir for his regular activities. they also bring him to the mall to play arcade, just like other children. so far, the child is coping pretty well. his behavior is already manageable. but the child is very much a perfectionist and would throw tantrums when what he does, does not turn out to be perfect. i guess there are different ways of coping, and that is based on what kind of autism a child has. take care and God bless you! hope everything works well for your project in school. happy mylotting! :-)
