I see all these promises and such that Obama is making to change things....I really wonder if things will ever change at all. The economy is so bad, people are losing their homes and jobs. It just seems so hopeless right now. It would be so easy for someone just to make promises, even if they don't keep them. Anything positive like Obama just seemed like such a ray of sunshine at election time.

Well he's already broken his promises regarding campaign financing and having lobbyists in his administration. Since many people are blindly supporting him he has no real motivation to keep his promises. His party in the senate almost unanimously confirmed a guy guilty of tax evasion to head the IRS so I don't think there's any question that he can get away with anything now. His opposition in the house and senate are incapable of preventing everything thanks to the supermajority democrats now have.

Don't be discouraged. Things will change. One of the basic principles of economics is that markets move in cycles. There are ups and downs. We are in a down right now. Even though it is bigger than most of the recent downturns, it is still just a phase of the economy. Things will become better in time. Sometimes I wonder if Obama would have been elected in a good economy. Its funny how everything gets blamed on Bush when the credit crisis can really be tracked back to Clinton (for the most part, there are more factors than his legislation). Good speakers get elected in times of crisis. Obama is a good speaker. I don't know that he will keep all of his promises, but he will probably do his best. Some promises are just unrealistic. I just hope that his changes are for the good, because I don't agree with a lot of them. Anyway, keep your head up. Things will get better. Sometimes you have to take a step back to move forward. That is exactly what we are going through right now.

May I ask if you voted for him? If so, may I ask why? Was it the economy or just that "ray of sunshine"?
The economy, yeh, it's pretty bad, not as bad yet as I remember in the 70's but still pretty rough. It is not going to smooth out over night, probably not in a year either. I don't mean to bring you down even more, but I'd be doing you no favors by lieing to you. I fall in to that catagory of "I was so poor alread I didn't notice the crash", so I guess I was not as effected.
Don't get all depressed and hopeless over it though, there are still jobs if one is not too fussy. Gas is still pretty cheap. Groceries are still on the store shelves and not sky high in cost. Banks are still open.
Best bet is plan ahead. Every shopping trip buy a few dollars of extra non perishable fod, ie; canned goods, dried goods, etc. Grow a vegatable garden this spring, if you have neighbors, see about maybe a comunity garden. This doesn't have to be amageddon if we don't let it. These are the kinds of times when communities and families can be our best resourses and looking out for each other.
Obama is one man in one position of limited power in government.

He's only been in office for a week so give it some time before you start worrying unnecessarily. It takes time to get out of a recession/depression (depending on which expert is classifying it) so we'll eventually see if Obama's plans help or not.
