On Sunday morning I felt much better after having the flu so I got out my carpet shampooer and did my living room and dining room carpets. It feels so good to have them done after having company etc over the holidays. Do you shampoo your carpets and how often do you do them?

I have a carpet shampooer but all it does is grind in the dirt and grime. Haven't used it in quite awhile. Ready to toss it out. We need ours professionally cleaned and will right after winter. I want the carpets steam cleaned. We now only have one pet so the cat dander needs to worked on and hopefully they can get it out of the carpet. Right now we have 6 inches of snow on the ground and my husband will make certain he tracks it all in the house..lol No point in cleaning the carpets now.

Hi Jill, I have a steam cleaner rather than shampoo carpet cleaner and I tend to do about twice a year really, but now I have the dog and a new carpet I may have to do about every three months but only the lounge and stairs, the bedrooms I only do once a year if that as they never really seem to need it and the only other time it comes out is if there is a spill. Thanks for reminding me of yet another thing on my things to do list LOL. It doesn't take long though it is just the getting out of back of shed etc that takes the time. Huggles. Ellie :D

We just built our house in 2006 and, to be honest, I've only had my carpets done once. Typically, this is part of my spring cleaning rituals... but I've gotten lazy. Bad, I know! I need to do them this season, though, and get back into the swing of things! Otherwise, the bacteria and traffic patterns will take over!!!

It does make you feel better to get that particular job done. Everything feels and smells so fresh and clean.. I used to do my carpets on a regular basis and enjoyed the benefits of the hard work that it took to get the entire houseful of carpets cleaned, but now I enjoy the benefits of hardwood floors.. I miss my carpet sometimes, but we had the prettiest wood floors under the carpet, so we took all of the carpet up..

We don't have a carpet here. It is warm and most of the time it is hot season here, we use linoleum instead which is much cooler. I do shampoo my hair everyday...lol...just making you laugh. But of course in big hotels and in wealthy homes which are usually air-conditioned, they have carpets in every room. Happy mylotting.

I bought a great shampooer and use it all the time. I like it because it not only cleans the carpets but makes the house smell so nice. I have that deodorizing cleaner and its really good. I have a lightweight shampooer that is easy to use...so its the best investment for cleaning that I ever made...and I bought it at Walmarts for under 100 dollars... @makingpots (11915)

I shampoo my carpets fairly often. I have dogs (well, just one dog.... still getting used to being without one we lost recently) and I can't stand the thought of my house smelling offensive to people visiting.
But I can't find a carpet shampoo that doesn't give me headaches when I use it. It's frustrating.

So sorry to hear you had the flu. It has sure been running rampant down here. We installed new carpet in the bedrooms in our house when we moved in nearly 6 years ago and I've never had to shampoo them. We don't wear shoes in the house, so the only shoes across our carpets are when we have guests (not real often) that go into the bedroom(s).
I used to have my carpets shampooed when we lived up north but years ago, I did shampoo the carpets myself. That is very hard work! I used to rent a carpet shampooer and spend a whole day shampooing all the carpets. I shampooed them about every other year.
Well, glad you got your task done. You deserve some rest!

I hate my carpet. It does not matter how much I vacumm and shampoo carpet is just disgusting. I can't wait to rip it up and put hardwood down. We are doing that this summer.

Haha no I have hardwood floors which are nice looking but cold. I really don't like hard wood floors anymore they are cold and keep the heat out. Not in. But I clean them once a week if that. Depends on my mood. Other wise I make non working roommates clean it. and they get mad. But do it or move. You have a great day. Your friend onlydia

I dont own my own carpet shampooer but i did rent one about a month ago and shampoo and the carpets in my apartment. I have two boys. One will be turning 5 years old in a couple of weeks and one is almost six months old. My five year old is constantly spilling stuff on the carpet and bringing mud in from outside on his shoes. So my carpet stays pretty dirty but now that the baby is rolling around on the floor i have to keep it cleaner somehow. It felt so good to see my carpet clean.

I wish I could shampoo my carpets. Hey want to borrow me your shampooer! I can't afford one so I have never owned one. It would be nice though, my carpet is nasty!!

The carpets in my house are getting very old and tired and need replaced very soon. I dont use a carpet shampooer anymore as I dont think the carpet material would cope with that. I would probably end up with holes in the carpet.
I do try to give them a very quick going over with a steam cleaner just to kill any bugs and germs that maybe lurking in the fibres. But I have to be very careful not to spoil the carpet.
