I just received an email from a friend of mine, who siad that her husband said that he heard Pres. Obama say something about a bill or something giving the doctors the right to TERMINATE the life of the elderly, "if" the doctor deemed it a good thing. Supposedly, it wiould be at the doctor's discretion, and be kept in the strictist of confidential information. I know a lot of things are no true, but I've already read about this somewhere here in MyLot as well. thanks

I haven't heard that one, but I did hear that he intends to propose legislation to mandate that all hospitals perform abortions - including privately owned and operated hospitals such as Catholic hospitals. It is my understanding that the "powers that be" of the Catholic church have said that they will close all their hospitals before they will agree to perform abortions in them.

I can see the hospitals ran by Catholic Churches doing that! Heck my friend wanted to get her tubes tied and she had to go to some hokey hospital her Dr was also affiliated with to get it performed as the one his office was connect to would not allow for the procedure.

That is sick! I would refuse! God is far higher in power than Obama could ever want to be and I will obey the Lord! Abortion is murder!

That wouldn't surprise me any! Obama is sick and twisted and I pray everyday for our country! He obviously has no regard for human life whether it be the elderly or the unborn. I feel with him as president, this country is in serious trouble!

Well I haven't read this anyplace else but what is wrong with this man. Is he crazy? I think that this man is going to create problems - he's been President less than two weeks and he already has the country in an uproar. I wish someone would get the right to dig out his birth certificate and then maybe we can get rid of this man I was willing to give a chance to but he is acting at lunatic proportions.

I have not heard of this yet either. I think it totally depends on what the guidelines being proposed are. I"m sure it's learning more twards those in a permanent vegatative state or along the lines of what Dr Jack Kavorkian (sp?) did if there was such a proposal on the table.

I have never heard President Obama say such a thing. However, doctors are already allowed to write a Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) order for a patient without patient or family consent. Obviously it does not happen very often, but it is legal. Of course the doctor would have to have good reason to believe the patient is sick enough/terminal enough that resuscitating them if they should suffer a respiratory or cardiac arrest would not be worth it. It is not very often that a doctor makes this decision without the request and/or agreement of patient or family, but it can be done. A lot of people don't realize that a DNR is actually a doctor's order. Yes, there are living wills in which a patient can request what they want, but the actual DNR order has to come from the doctor.

I haven't heard anything on this one yet. I think that it shouldn't be up to the doctors, but the family to do this. I think if a person is sick or old enough to not want to live they should be allowed to go in peace! I don't think that it should just be up to the doctors though. Who knows if they really have the persons best interest at heart as the family most likely would. Not in all cases, but most of them.

Hes also a socialist, wants a draft like thing instituted. It would have been nice if everyone knew what he was about before all these ignorant people unrightly jumped on the bandwagon.

Well Obama is pro-abortion and it is just a short step from that to euthanasia. If it is all right to kill a pre-born because letting him or her live would mean you would have to make sacrifices, killing an elderly person because caring for him or her would negatively impact your life would seem just as reasonable. And even if the children do not want their elderly parent to die, the doctor could go ahead and turn off the life support system or just give them a needle - like putting down a dog, and feign sorrow when he tells them that their grandparent just passed. If this is true, I hope all concerned myLotter citizens of the United States write to their representative and voice their opposition to this evil. I hope that Canadians can do so, but we are limited to those petitions that allow international cooperation.

I've got to say I haven't heard anything about this but I'd pretty much bet anything it's not true. Can you even imagine what a stink something like this would make? Annie

I haven't heard anything about this either and I would imagine that it would have been mentioned on the news by now if there was pending legislation in this area. Everyone should have a living will anyway. That takes the burden off the family if you're terminally ill and also takes the responsibility away from the medical staff. I wouldn't want to be kept alive by machines if there's no hope for me but I certainly wouldn't want some doctor being able to decide to pull the plug if I needed life support for a short amount of time while recovering from something.

No I haven't heard of this, but it really doesn't surprise me. Though ya gotta hand it to him; he's just started his presidency and already he's starting all sorts of projects isn't he. Well I guess I'll just keep my fingers crossed that he won't mess up too many things.

Hi Classy, Well, I haven't heard this yet, but I think it wold be good. Euthanism has been legal in my contry for a couple of years now, and I think that is a good thing. It doesn't mean any doctor could go off killing people by choice, but it helps the really suffering people a lot. It puts their severe pain to an end. I'm talking of cases where people are in a vegetative state for a long time ("pulling the plug") or in their last terminal stage of cancer or that kind of thing. I for one was glad that my grandparents, who were in a tremendous deal op pain, could finally rest in peace, when they got their morfine. It's one of those thing I jst don't get about US politics. Some things are illegal over there, wich are not over here. Abortion for example..
