I'm Under Attack!

That was my first thought when the temperature rose above freezing this morning . . . but from what? I was sitting beading this morning when I heard a loud thud. . boom. Then several more not quite so loud. By the time I heard the last one I realized that two nights and a day of freezing drizzle had deposited a thick coat of ice on my roof. It was thawing and seemed to all turn loose at the same time. I live in a mobile home with metal underpinning and when the ice would hit the ground it would shatter and hit the underpinning. It was really quite unsettling for the few seconds it took to realize what was happening. Does the weather ever give you a start when the sun is shining, no clouds in site and not even a mild breeze blowing?

I think it is weird when it rains, yet the sun is out...

Where I grew up there were two sayings about that. It's going to rain tomorrow, and The Devil's beating his wife. ????? I didn't know the Devil had a wife.

haha that is almost as bad as the movie little nicky. where the devil had a son and the mother was either a goat or an angel.

Hope you're staying warm there in Nashville. This winter has really brought some crazy weather patterns. I was really surprised when they said it snowed in New Orleans in December. I'm sure glad I'm not living in the great lakes region!

The same thing happened to us last week. We had tons of huge icicles hanging from our roof. We live in a big house that has an attic too, so they were hanging way up there and then crashing to the ground. I was awake when they starting hitting the ground but it still gave me a scare. It sounded like someone was trying to break into my house. Then my daughter comes running into the room saying she heard something loud. I told her what it was and she told me to make it stop she didn't like it.

Coming down off those tall roofs the icicles really make a loud noise. Especially if they're big ones.

Gosh you scared the life out of me! You must have got quite a scare because it transpires through your words I have been frightened to my wits end by some sudden thunderstorms. They seemed like some of those on some old films with real scary sound effects except that these were real. Haven't had any that bad of late - or maybe I'm used to them now

Oh, yes. I hate it when the sun is shining in the east (which is where most of my windows are) and suddenly there's this loud clap of thunder. I look to the the west and it's all black clouds, but because I saw the sun shining I wasn't expecting the thunder.

*L* Yeah. As the ice was melting, the icicles were falling onto the deck. I kept hearing crashing noises in the back. I couldn't figure out what it was, since the guys are not out working in the creek today/. I finally got brave enough to look out side. The back deck was covered in shattered ice. I don't know why I didn't realize that was what was happening as it was happening.

Nature certainly is full of surprises. Especially here. Weather patterns are very unpredictable.

Yup! LOL Scared the devil out of me too... when I lived in the country, my home was very tall and had a tin roof. In the winter, the ice would accumulate quite thick and then, on a sunny day, it would start to come loose. Sometimes, HUGE sheets of ice would break away and slide down the tin roof onto the ground. The sound it would make was SO loud... I'd always go running to see if it was a big truck or something out front but, no, just ice sliding LOL

As what you described I can imagine how bad is your situation there now. Over my place the weather is unpredictable though we have sunshine most of the time but lately the weather wasn't good, there was thunderstorm in the evenings and lately lightning hit my cable which left me paralized for a few days without being able to surf. I hope the weather is smiling again cos I am now having the phobia to go to the net even with a slight drizzle outside. The sky might send a loud bang and it will affect the cable again.

Hello my friend thebeaddoodler Ji, I am simply amazed and at the same time admire your compromise of living with nature. In my country, only in Srinagar area, people live in Floating Sikara in river Chenav, where ven vegetation is also floating. but I never imagine that even living would be moble, where whole house may be pulled by a trailor or some sort of Prime mover. It might be rarest experience for me. But I have experienced moving around snowing weather between 04 Dec-08 dec, 2003, during our Visit to baltimore, New-Jersy, and Nyork City. It wa sour great experience. But I could imagine the way you got blast, when Ice melted and broke into pieces. may god bless you and have great time.
