In October my husband had his vasectomy reversed and after the month of healing we have been "trying" to get pregnant. Now, I know it is only January, but how how long do you think it should take? All of his counts after his surgery said his count was perfectly fine....and I have had 4 children, but it has been 8 years since my last child. I am 37 and he is 40....when you start to be concerned that it just wasn't going to happen?

My husband had a vasectomy about 3 years ago, actually it was almost exactly 3 years as he got it done in January while I was pregnant for my toddler. He was our 4th child, and we didn't even mean to get pregnant with him, but 4 was more than enough kids for us. Well, 10 months after my son was born, guess what, surprise, I'm pregnant again!! It had been a little over a year since my husband had the vasectomy, so that was a little odd. I have no idea why the procedure didn't work. Anyways, I know that doesn't answer your question. We never got hubby's reversed, we didn't want another child. But here we are with 5 beautiful children and I love them all, I wouldn't change a thing... I just hope and pray I don't have anymore, lol. I don't think your age should have an effect. My neighbor just had her 5th child at the age of 40. She was not trying to get pregnant, she didn't want another, but she is happy she finally has a son after 4 girls. I bet there's nothing more frustrating than trying to get pregnant and seeing that it doesn't happen. I personally am relieved each month when my period comes, but that's just me, lol! Back to your question... I haven't the slightest idea, but I wish you luck. I believe everything happens for a reason, so if you're meant to have another child, you will. If not, then at least you already have 4 beautiful children to share your life with.

OH my gosh what a shock for you!!!! I have heard that happens but never really spoke to anyone that it happened to. My husband says it will happen when it is supposed to and the Dr. said sometimes it takes up to a year. I just keep thinking the longer it takes the older I am getting. I am pretty sure the age shouldn't have a hand in it because my Mom had me when she 40 and then had my younger sister when she 49!!! I will keep you all up to date for sure and thanks for reassurance.

49??? Wow! I'm hoping I'm one of the lucky people who hits menopause very young. I wouldn't mind if I hit menopause at 30 yrs old, lol! Anything to ensure I don't have anymore kids. Right now I have an IUD, have had it almost a full year now. It's good for 10 years, although my main reason for getting it was to buy me some time until I could get a tubal (at the time I also needed my gall bladder removed, and since that was causing pain all the time, I figured that surgery should come first). I figure I'll be nearly 40 by the time my IUD is ready to come out, and if I'm lucky I'll have hit menopause before then, but I doubt it. I'll have to figure something out in the next 5-6 years for a more permanent solution.

It gets harder to get pregnant when getting older. I wouln't worry if it took 6 months or more. I've never tried to get pregnant - I've just became pregnant just like that. First of all try near your ovaluation - all other times are "useless" Good Luck!

I have heard that as you get older it does get harder. I have never tried before either so this "planning" stuff is new to me. Maybe an ovulation predictor kit might help?
