Handwriting, can you know a person by it?

Do you believe that you can tell what a person is like just by their handwriting? Do you think it makes sense? Or is it just another trick to sell a book?

But do you think you could get a vague idea from it? Like if it was written in large letter or really broad strokes, mightn't you think that person was outgoing? I rather like certain people, and I've noticed they have similar handwriting after I've known them. My favorite people tend to have small handwriting, where they almost seem to resent taking too much space. I hadn't seen their handwriting until after I'd met them. It's odd though. They have widely varying personalities. Nothing similar there. Just similar handwriting, and that I get along well with them.

i'll admit i don't pay that much attention to their handwriting. i notice if it's a pretty handwriting or if it's not.

I think you can tell how a person is feeling at the time, if it is all sloppy looking, than that person might be feeling lazy when they wrote that.

Yes, that would probably be true.

all I can say is that I couldn't tell my common writing (printing) from a former boss of mine... I used to take notes and say "I guess you wrote this because I can't remember doing it."

I've ran into that before too! I didn't like the lady who's handwriting was so much like mine, but I couldn't tell them apart!! And our clock numbers at work were similar too. Very odd!

Lovely topic and a shame it did not get more responses. I am in Italy and here handwriting is used by firms when jobs become vacant. They will ask the applicants to do a hand-written application. These are then passed on to professionists who have studied handwriting and can understand the personality of a person through their writing. They also work in court cases too on both sides, studying the handwriting both of victims and suspects. I was intrigued by this several years ago and attended a very basic course through evening classes. I learnt some very basic things and at the time put them into practice with my friends. It may seem absurd but I'll just leave a couple of insights here which might make receiving a letter from someone even more interesting. - if the general style of the handwriting slants to the right, the writer is a positive, on-going type of person who looks forwrd to the future. The opposite is the case for handwriting which slants backwards and the writer usually thinks more of his or her past. - the pressure with which the writing is impressed on the paper is an important factor too. If it is generally very bold and heavily impressed the writer was in a hurried and even cross mood at the time of writing. Likewise the opposite if the writing is hardly making any impression on the paper. Try looking at your own handwriting from a few days, months or years back, even only last week, and you will notice the differences, dependng on your mood when you wrote it, of where you crossed your 'T's, how far underneath the line the letter 'p','q' and 'g' go. It's fun and I really wish I had carried on studying it further... maybe one day.

Darn it!! I've gotta start letting discussions sit for longer than I do. I get so many good responses after I think everyone's done with it. Fudge and cupcakes!!! This was a great response. Thank you for your input.

I don't think you can tell what a person is like just because of their handwriting. Most men have very sloppy handwriting, and I don't think it says a thing about them. Same for women, theirs is usually nicer than men, but it don't say nothing about a woman either. I think clothes on another hand can say a lot about someone.

When it is my birthday or christmas and the cards arrive.I can normally say thats from your mum thats from my dad, ect.I only know my nearest and dearests hand writing.I am surprised you cannot tell, mindyou we were brought up with out email and computers so we must have gained a skill that maybe is a dying art form .People just don't write anymore do they when our generation was young we wrote thankyou letters, sent letters to relatives and a friends. It was the only way we could stay in touch unless you were lucky enough to have a phone indoors. These days like I said you can send email and phone someone up to keep in touch .Yes I do beleave you can tell the persons personality by their handwriting, the police use it a lot,I don't think it is an exact science but quite reliable.

I couldn't believe it either. I'm a constant letter writer. I learned most people's style the first time. It was just this lady I had issues with. Nobody we worked with could tell them apart. My number had a 2 and a 7 in it. I tend to slur the 2, cause I'm trying to write a bunch at a time. So my 2 looks like a 7. The handwriting was weird. She made loops and crossed her t's just like I did mine. Her writing slanted the same way too. The only difference was in a couple letters. If the memo didn't have those letters, nobody could tell.

I do not believe so. sometimes it may help to tell a person, but it is not always correct.

There are books that tell a person's handwriting which has something to do with his personality, well, maybe this is true. I don't know also what type of personality I am through my handwriting, I never encountered a person who can read my personality through my handwriting.

I have a couple books on it. (I have a couple books on almost everything...) I thought I'd throw this out there to see what other's thought about it.
