Is it a movie, or is it a series?

We've all seen great movies, that keep coming back so it practically becomes a series. Which one irritates you the most? That just went on for WAY too long, with II, III, IV, and so on. And got worse the longer they went on. My personal irritation was The Mummy. Ok, it's been remade a few too many times too. But I really, really liked The Mummy with Brendan Fraser. I loved the second one too, Alex was a royal hoot. But the third one was going way too far. Did anybody else hate it? What is your personal dislike? Which one did you think they went way overboard on continuing? Which ones would you want to see continued?

The one that get's me is the friday the 13th franchise. I know the people who came up with the idea for the movie thought that it would be cool to make the series all the way up to part 13, but eventually the chapters ran out of gas. Became stupid. There are only so many ways Jason can be killed, or die. And only so many ways he can kill. How many different ways can he smack someone up against a tree in a sleepingbag? Eventually, the movie goer gets bored and loses interest. Now, they're bringing him back yet again?! Now he's faster, and can jump and leap!! Whoopee... There's a lot of movies that follow this same route, they make alittle money and keep making movies until they run the series into the ground. My own philosophy is if they take the character to outer space, then the creaters are running out of ideas, and it's time to hang up the gloves and take a bow.

Oh yeah!! Were you perchance making a reference to the Hellraiser series? Wait, Jason did go to outer space, didn't he? Heheh. Have you seen them all? I was just wondering, who won? Did Jason, or Freddy? Wasn't there a show with them fighting each other? Freddy scared the heck out of me the first time I saw it, so I don't watch anything with his character. But I would really like to know!

Yes, I saw the hellraiser series, too. Pinhead became a Rod Sterling to the hellraiser series. Jason did takes a trip to space, so did the Leperchaun, so did the hellraisers!!! The Jason vs. Freddy, that's just all of them tryin' to squeeze some more juice outta the series. Having the 80's monsters battle each other. I never saw that movie all the way through, either. I never saw the ending. I now they were talkin bout putting other characters up against each other. Sad thing is my kids have never seen a friday 13th movie or a nightmare on elm street, but they know who these characters are from horror movies.

Make a movie that sells and you make a sequel. When you run out of sequel ideas then you make a prequel and go way before that in order to make more money. I don't really care how far they go into the future or the past. I have stopped caring about movies and the people who make them. Cheers!!

I saw those, too. It's not just horror movies that make prequels, G. Lucus went back and redid darth vader and luke to make a few more bucks. Even though he claims that this was all in the big picture from the beginning.

I think we're talking Hannibal here, aren't we? My girlfriend, a horror fan, made me watch Silence of the Lambs. I put deadlocks on the doors when I got home... She made me watch some of the others too. Urgh... Not my thing at all!

I'd just bought the complete set of the "Fawlty Towers" TV series, with extra material including interviews with the cast..I was watching part of John Cleese's interview last night, and he mentioned the underwhelming critical response the series received on its first run, which took a repeat airing alongside season 2 to launch it towards the "Classic" status it has now..He mentioned that the current BBC TV head has a predecessors disparaging Memo on the series framed on the wall in the office,as a warning not to be judgemental! John also mentioned an original idea is the toughest one to sell when trying to get a project off the ground..."More of the same" has a better chance of getting into production,as there's a track record of the success and revenue that could be expected..that's why there are so many remakes and sequels..I have to agree..Mummy 3 gripped me less than the first 2.. though I don't have a particular pet hate series of movies that outstayed it's welcome..When you say "Which would you like to see continued",do You mean a series that's already in production,or starting a series from a Movie that hasn't been sequelled as yet? I think the "Alien/Predator" series has run its course, though I like them, and "Serenity" deserves another chance..

Either one! I guess Mummy really got to me, cause I loved those first two movies. Making a sequel, and changing a main character (like Evie) really, really annoys me. So I was already set to hate it. The plot didn't help! But there are shows, series on tv or movies, that could have been so much more but were cut tragically short. I know there were so many I hated losing, but I just can't put a name to any right now!! (Oh, I hate losing my mind the most!! A truer saying never existed!)

I saw someone else mention the Friday the 13th ones..another one in the same genre all the Halloween series of movies. Also at the risk of people flinging wet noodles at me, do I dare say??? The Batman ones...maybe since I plain just never was a Batman fanatic (pyewacket runs to get a shield to guard her from the flying wet noodles..LOL)

The Bale ones were ok, but they sure weren't on my top 10. The acting was great, don't get me wrong. It's just Batman should be left to die, seriously. Milking a franchise that long is not good. Kinda like Terminator... As for the original ones, they really should have stopped after Michael Keaton. How many Batmans do we really need?

There are a lot of movies I think they take too far. First of all if they are going to make a II movie of any kind I think they should use the same characters as the first movie. I hate when the second one has nothing to do with the first movie. I know what you did last summer. That is one movie I didn't like because in the sequels they didn't use any of the same characters. I know there are many more too, but it is getting late and I can't think of the names of them.

Haven't seen that one. it is pretty disgusting to make a sequel, but it's all new characters. What's the point? Except to irritate us watchers.

Yeah, The Mummy went to far with the 3rd one, too much effects which didn't seem as nice as the first and second one..besides, the storyline isn't much different that's what's boring..watching it was a disappointment. Spiderman III was actually quite good though..much to my surprise the story seems to continue since Spiderman does have a series of comics in line. I guess that movies need a lot of storyline with different turns that actually keeps the viewers interested to watch. Princess

Very true. I don't like Spiderman, the character, myself. But the movies were really pretty good. I even teared up when he was stopping the train in the second one. (Sh, don't tell anyone)

Yeah I think by the time they get to the fourth version of any movie it is not going to be very good. I think they are trying to copy the orignial and it is not always going to work. I never saw anythging other than the first rocky because I thought there was no way the sequels were going to compare.

I never even saw the first one!! I saw Rambo though. Didn't they go WAY overboard on those? I mean, maybe the second one was an ok continuation. But how long must we endure continuations? lol

My daughter rented it. I wish I hadn't seen it. It really, really isn't good. Even with Jet Li and Fraser in it.

Oh, the Mummy movies were pathetic from the start. I don't know why I ever bothered to watch. The one with the Rock in it isn't bad I guess. But they've WAY overdone it. All of those rediculous horror movies are way too much too. Halloween, Friday the 13th, blah blah. Ick. Even Scream was ok the first time but terrible after that. And another that comes to mind is the Saw movies. I'm not a big fan of blood and guts movies and these just made me totally sick. I'll stick to comedy, documentaries, thriller and drama genres, thank you.
