Do you push the elevator button more than once?

I find it irritating when people push the elevator button when the light is already on (which means that someone else already pressed it). And I find it even more irritating when they push it again after that! We all know that no matter how many times you push the elevator, it won't rush! There's a lesson we can learn from elevators - we really shouldn't let pressure affect our performance when we're doing the best we could :)

A sense of control... that sounds to be the perfect description of why many do it. I guess I'm just the type who surrenders to the inevitable :P

No I try not to, though but I'm always tempted to press the elevator button more then once LOL, besides the elevator dosent seem to go any faster no matter how many times you press the button hehe.

Ok, I admit that I'm one of those folks who pushes the button even though the light is lit but I can't help myself! Usually when I'm waiting for an elevator I get bored so that's why I push the button...not because I'm stressed or in a hurry but just because I don't have anything else to do aside from trying not to look at everyone else waiting, too.

I do! I always think it'll make the elevator go to my floor faster. Of course if I think about it then I know this is not true. The buttons are really nice and loud so pushing it is also a lot of fun. Some elevators now have discreet buttons so those aren't fun to push. I just like playing with the round ones that make a smacking noise and are sort of protruding.

No, but i also have realized that people do that too (press the bottom more than once). I can't find a reason for that.

Longtime ago, I was very sacred to get into elevator because I feared what will happen if the elevator stopped suddenly. I used to take stairs as far as possible. Now a days, I do use elevator. Sometimes I push the button one more time if the elevator do not move up. I always tries to get into elevators if someone also is there because of my fear of elevator.

Nope, I just press it once. While designating the floor I am going. The rest, it does it on its own. That is the convenience of the elevator. You just need to press the button and it will bring you there as fast as it could.

Do you push the elevator For a moment I thought you are asking me to push the elevator to the desired floor . no, I am not the one who is very fond of pushing these buttons. I will alway push only those which are required. Well, if I am the only one with a female into that elevator, then I might be interested in pushing more than one button to keep that lady with me most of the time in the elevator!

That's an interesting analogy to use in terms of the way we should be when we are stressed out I do not find that I am personally irritated by people pressing the button too many times - infact I am sure I am guilty of doing the same thing a few times myself!!

I think pushing it once is enough. The poor elevator button already has way too many people stabbing at it all day and every day. I'm pretty sure I don't need to make it any worse for it. And yeah, you can't rush the elevator, so I don't see the point in pressing the button so many times.

I've not pushed the button more than once unless the light didn't turn on, but if there are people who do it...most people tend to give the look of "Don't you know how the elevator operates?" ..I guess its forgivable when our moods aren't happy.. :) Princess

When Im in a hurry, I usually push the button 2 to 3 times. But when i am not hurrying my time, i just push the button one time. Sometimes people do this when they are hurrying or in a rush. But others just like to push the button over & over again. I remember one Building has a signage in the Lobby Floor " Push Button One time Only".

I guess it's because we live in such a fast paced world now, everyone wants to get there quicker, it's all rush, rush, rush, is it any wonder stress levels are on the increase? People get stressed out having to wait, which is why they think that by pressing the button continually will make it speed up! It won't it just gets the person agitated and their blood pressure increases. Once the light is on you know it will arrive in it's time not yours, and people don't like to be not in control of things and the lift arrives when it does!

The building i work in sometimes you have to. From the inside there are some buttons that dont work that good. So sometimes you have to push them two or three times. Also at my sons doctor office one time i pushed the button but it skipped the floor. So i had to go back down. After that i started pushing it more than once to insure it went to the right floor.

Oyenkai, I have never thought of the lift in that way the way you have analysed it. Anyways, unfortunately I am one of them who impatiently keeps pressing the button just to ease the stress of impatience that I have within me. But since you have made me think now, I may not press it after all. Anyways, I think you should stop getting annoyed at them because they are also good people like me. [:P] Just impatient!!

I am mostly sane and definately know that the elevator does not know that I am in a hurry nor does it care if I push the button 50 times. I still do it though. It's one of those small compulsions that I allow myself. I just poke it over and over again, knowing it's in vain....lol

Actually I do. Even if it will not make the elevator go faster. Maybe its kinda mentality for people to push the elevator button repeatedly especially when they are getting pissed that the elevator is taking some time to open its doors. Or rather, if they are in a hurry and they are pretty much excited for the elevator to come. LOL. While maybe some just likes the feeling of being able to push that button.

Yes, I also find it very frustrating when people hit the button more than once, it does not make it any faster, so what is the point of doing it.
