Best Response - Criteria and Timing

I noticed lots of very good answers in some discussions I started that it took me lots of thinking whom to award the BR. There are also an instance when I already marked which I think is an excellent answer when a much better response was posted later. So I have two things to clear here... 1) How do you choose the Best Response in your discussions? What's your criteria? and... 2) When is the best time to choose the best response? On the very first day the discussion is posted or we should allow few more days/weeks/months to pass before choosing one?.

I will wait a few weeks before choosing a best response. Sometimes longer if I am busy or have more than 20 responses to each new discussion. The criteria from which I choose depends on a few things. I will not choose best response for a one line answer. Often times, I will present more than one question. I appreciate the response to touch of my discussion as a whole. Helpful out weighs "I don't know" along with why the respondent doesn't know. I like reference. Genuine responses that contain quality information, points of view or expertise out weighs language barriers. I posted a discussion similar to yours. Feel free to view it and the responses here: How Long After Posting A Discussion Do You Choose Best Response http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1765709.aspx

Thanks for the link, it answers a part of my question. Let's see the answer of those who were not able to respond in your previous thread. And perhaps, that link can be cross referred here to see if any of the respondents changed their minds. I really wonder why many preferred a week time before choosing a BR.

Hi I like your cute profile photo. I am not sure why some would wait anywhere from three days to one week. Personal preference I suppose. Thank you for your comment.

According to me the best time is around 3 hours after posting the discussion. Criteria for best response, tough to describe. But I prefer to prioritize the substance of the writing. The quality of writing is another parameter.

Is there a particular reason why you wait up to three hours before choosing your best response?

Regarding timing it depends. Usually I always leave a week to three weeks before I award the best response award. I don't have a particular criteria on which to award the best response. I always try to award the user who has put more effort than the others.
